The new MAC700 - Hotdog compressor by Makita is blowing away the competition with built-in features such as a super quiet motor that draws only 12.3CFM @ 90PSI and a lever handled ball valve drain system to get rid of condensation build up in the tank .0HP AIR COMPRESSOR 12. hot dog tank Low amp draw & oil lubricated Roll-bar handle Industrial air filter & cast iron cylinder Oil sight glass & lever handle ball valve Built-in thermal overload for motor protection MAC700 2HP AIR COMPRESSOR.

Quiet, Solid, Well Made - I wanted a portable compressor for using my nail guns at old houses, and was ready to replace my antique mastodon shop compressor. I was thinking I may have to buy two compressors, most portable units were too loud for the shop. A few weeks ago I bought a Ridgid brand "oil-free" compressor at Home Depot but it was so loud that I couldn't use it indoors, even covered with a chunk of old carpet. It had good air flow.3 CFM is higher than many of the 75-pound twin stack compressors I saw. Tank is only 3 gallons so it will cycle more than a twin stack. To reduce cycling in the shop, I attached my 5-gallon air tank (the kind you use for putting air in a flat tire) to the tank side of the regulator with a T and snap coupler. In the shop the tank is effectively 8 gallons. Tank.and just use the 3 gal hot dog tank.like don't use the compressor in the bathtub. It's a large, high quality compressor mounted on a small, portable tank. You'll get really spoiled if you're used to a noisy oil-less compressor.
Hot Dogg ! - Makita has put a full size, quiet, oil-lubed motor on a small, lighter weight tank; about 20lbs lighter than the 4 gallon tanks. This makes it great for carrying up stairs and around the job site. Of course, with the smaller tank (2.
    Damaged Goods -
The black plastic engine housing was cracked but remained in place, the air/condensation release valve at the base of the tank was broken off at the tank !?#%#! After a little hand work I removed what remained of the fitting, reversed and reinstalled the valve.
After repairs (seems odd to repair a brand new machine) it seems to run great, no oil or air leaks.

Very good - The compressor is packed very well without any damage. It could fill the tank within a minuate. After running it over 20 minuates, I discovered that I did not install the air filter.
Arrived damaged - After opening the cardboard box that was obviously crushed, I found the plastic motor cover broked and the brass unloading elbow broken-off in the check valve attached to the side of the tank.
makita mac700 2hp air compressor - i purchased this compressor about a year ago from amazon.im a contractor and need a good durable compressor that i can use everyday.the first day i had it on my truck it tipped over, breaking the oil cap and the week brass connector on the tank.
Damaged!!! - Additionally, the paint on the handle and the tank was abraded.
Lives up to all reviews - the packing is substandard and the unit was skewed around in the box but fortunately sustained only minor scuffing at the tank ends.
Makita MAC700 -nice little compressor - I almost didn't order this compressor after reading all the reviews about shipping damage, but mine arrived in perfect shape.

My old pancake compressor finally died. It is resonably portable and very very quiet for a compressor. The drain valve at the bottom makes quick work of draining the tank at the end of the day.

Great little compressor - I have had this compressor for a couple of weeks now and really like it. I chose this model over the very popular oil-free pancake compressors mainly for it's compact size and low noise level.

The unit is compact, but much heavier duty than similar Cr*ftman compressors I saw at Sears. It recycles quickly and fills the tank in less than 20 seconds. I would recommend this unit to anyone looking for an occasional use compressor and does not want something large or loud.
    An Airbrushing Powerhouse -

I use it to power airbrushes along with an added-on airbrush regulator/gauge/moisture trap. This is exactly what I wanted for airbrushing. It has a much longer lifespan than "airbrush compressors". The airbrushes work consistently all throughout the refill phase. This is the muscle car of airbrush compressors even though it was made in Taiwan. It's right there as high as you wanna go to get the tank filled up. 5 to 10 minutes of airbrushing in silence, and when it comes on it does have some volume, but it is so much less noise than an oilless.

Great compressor, but check the box thouroughly before signing for delivery! - After working with a friend's older version of this compressor for the last eight months, I decided to splurge and get my own. If this compressor is anything like the older model, it's going to last forever. It looks like someone must've dropped it, and from a pretty good height! One of the legs was bent about 2 inches, so the compressor would rock when set down. Fortunately, the compressor itself (external tubes and gauges and whatnot) are all fine. It's annoying, but I don't want to go through the exchange process and be without air for another two weeks.

The startup process is fairly simple. There are two plastic plugs on the compressor that need to come out. One covers the oil filler, and one covers the air intake port. You replace the plug on the air intake port (topmost plug) with the included air filter, and you replace the oil filler plug with the included oil cap. Then, open the air release valve at the very bottom of the air tank and run the compressor for 20 minutes. Check the oil level periodically, of course!

On a related note, I also bought the Campbell Hausfeld MP520010AV air tool accessory kit to get me started.

An air compressor isn't one of those must-have tools for the homeowner—-that is, until you've used one. The HL5501 has plenty of power for a stapler or nailer; imagine how quickly a chair rail could go up. Because it's a smaller unit, its air delivery is lower, so make sure you check the air requirements of the tools you intend to use it with.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste

Compared to electric power tools, Campbell Hausfeld air tools save you both time and money. 8 Gallon, 15A Cast Iron Air Compressor, Oil Lube Pump With 2.
    found in HL5501's reviews:
Sturdy, portable, cheap oil-lubricated compressor... But noisy! -

Let me start by saying that I can't live without an air compressor. Those of you who don't have one have no idea how much you'll use it and what an integral part of any household project or repair it will become when you finally have one. That being said, let me explain why I bought this particular compressor and what I think about it thus far.

Until recently, I had an 8-gallon oil-free compressor that was handed down to me from my dad after I bought him a large stationary garage unit about 6 years ago. This thing lasted about 13 years with very regular use with a few repairs over the years. This is absolutely unheard of with an oil-free compressor. In order to replace the blue tarp roof provided by FEMA with some actual shingles, I will need a compressor to power my roofing and framing nailers. Portability and reliability are important factors in order to assist with the reconstruction efforts of the community once the repairs to my home are complete. This is why I decided on an oil-lubricated compressor. Although I had great success with the aforementioned oil-free compressor, I do understand that this was more the exception than the rule. It is hard to find an oil-lubed compressor that is both portable and affordable., making them very difficult to get in and out of your truck/car by yourself, let alone getting them up a flight of stairs. The pressure switch is mounted to a post that is welded to the tank. This compressor does not come with oil, even though the instruction manual says "only use the oil that was shipped with the compressor." The other thing that you will run into is that it does not come with a coupler to connect an air hose to. Although this is very common for air tools not to come with the required fittings to connect it to a hose, there is one difference here. I have never seen a quick-disconnect air hose connector (the hose end that has the sleeve to release the connection) with male threads on it. (a brass pipe nipple for you plumbers out there)

    Use:
The Campbell Hausfeld HL5501 overall seems to be a very good compressor. If you are looking into this compressor because of the reduced noise level that oil-lubed compressors are known for, then you will be disappointed. This compressor is every bit as loud as any comparable oil-free unit.

    Conclusion:
I would recommend this compressor to the handy home user that wants the reliability and longevity of an oil-lube compressor, but doesn't want to spend a lot of money. I would not recommend this compressor if the noise level is a big issue, but be prepared to spend a lot more money for a belt-driven unit.

    found in FP205299AV's reviews:
Wall mount air compressor - While it is nice to have the compressor mounted on the wall and up off the floor, this one does not have the performance I had hoped for. It is more nosey then I thought it would be, the tank is too small. It seems like the compressor is always running. I wish I had bought a larger compressor for the same money at Sears.

At just a foot high and less than two feet wide out of the carton, this compressor was quite a bit smaller than we expected, so to be fair, we quickly lowered our expectations. The joke was on us, though, because this little powerhouse just doesn’t quit, and we learned that you can’t judge a compressor by its size. Emglo’s half-century in the compressor business is evident in this model, and with a couple of small exceptions (we’ll get into that in a minute), we don’t think anyone could make a finer piece of air power. To let out any moisture that’s accumulated, it’s just an easy turn of the ball-valve tank drain, then just wrap the cord on its holder and you’re ready to go. Now, this may be a plus or a minus in your book, but we liked the fact that the compressor is factory set to power on at 100 psi an+d shut off at 120 psi, and the cycle time was under 15 seconds.) It has air aplenty for two nailers at once, and with that fast recovery, the job will get done in no time.

In balance, this is one of the best compressor’s we’ve seen for the size, power, ruggedness and incredible portability it offers. Here’s to a great pairing of two great toolmakers.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste

    found in D55155's reviews:
dewalt has never let me down - most of my tools are dewalt including a assortment of nailers and this compressor.its great!!never short on air supply, even when framing.roll cage protection is much nicer then old twin tank setup.as for noise, air compressors make noise but this unit is not bad,its a lot nicer on the ears then my 30 gallon unit. the only thing that would make this unit more attractive would be wheels and a self-storing handle like porter cable offers on its single tank compressors, other then that i have no complants.
Good machine, but some packaging and assembly issues - To my dissatisfaction, it arrived with a broken air filter and some loose items rolling around in the air tank. No, it wasn't the air filter parts, it was something metalic actually inside the closed tank! Amazon referred me to DeWalt who referred me to my local service center. DeWalt was nice enough to agree to send a replacement filter, but I returned the unit to Amazon because of the loose items in the tank.

Thanks to Amazon's incredibly fast and hassle-free process for returns, I had my replacement compressor less than a week later. Unfortunately, it too had a broken air filter. But since everything else was fine, I bought a filter locally (DeWalt's replacement has yet to arrive) for $10 and kept the compressor. This was not in the first shipment and is REQUIRED before starting the unit which is something that as a first-time compressor buyer, I would not have known to do. That kind of transition can lead to inconsistencies in fabrication and packaging like I have experienced, but I'm hopeful that the core design and construction of the pump and tank is solid and I like the way the machine works so I'm keeping it.

A very good compressor - I replaced my hotdog style oil-less compressor when the connecting rod decided to break.

While at the local hardware store I saw the DeWalt D55155 compressor and thought, "geez, you could not miss that compressor!" The bright yellow paint made this compressor stand out and then that's when I saw the name Emglo. It has a 4 gallon tank, two connectors on the front, an easy to use regulator and gages that are protected by the heavy roll frame and face plate. This compressor also has a ball valve on the bottom of the tank for easy draining. This ball valave is also inside the frame as is every component of the compressor. It's mounted inside the roll cage near the copper line running from the compressor to the tank. It might be, but, I put the compressor away from where I'm working so this is not an issue.

As with any compressor you have to keep the extension cords short.

So, would I buy this compressor again if I had to? You bet!.
Paradox - I just pulled the compressor out of the box and was mightly impressed. It filled the tank quickly and quietly.
Other tools - However, I use it primarily with other air tools including an impact wrench. I was a little worried about the 4 gallon reserve tank handling my impact wrench air volume which is the most common tool I use for odd jobs.
JUST WHAT I NEEDED - I AM A BUILDER BY TRADE AND I HAVE A 8HP GAS COMPRESSOR FOR MY LARGE JOBS. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL EMGLOW COMPRESSORS AND THIS HAS MET EVERY JOB I BOUGHT IT FOR. IF YOU NEED MORE AIR THEN I WOULD CONSIDER A 2 HP OR MORE SETUP. I LOVE THE HANDLE AND THE BALANCE OF IT TO CARRY AND LOAD IN THE TRUCK WITHOUT TIPPING OVER THE STACKED TANK MODELS WOULD FALL OVER OR ROLL AROUND THE TRUCK. THAT MAKES THE CONTROLS FAIRLY WELL PROTECTED.
Best investment yet - I just use short blasts of air and let the unit catch back up if I want to dust something off. Little heavy, but for long distances I have learned to grab the tank like a heavy piece of fire wood with the unit up to your chest and it is not bad.(longer air hose is better) .
Best light duty unit for the money - But, as some of the other reviews have stated, this unit is not for heavy duty operation that would entail the use of spray guns, air sanders or all day feeding of multiple framing nailers. I have since replaced this unit with a simular $210 Hitachi twin tank unit (3 stars) that has worked fine for over a year after this one disappeared off a job site.
Solid Performer. - I am a general contractor who needed a better compressor to do small framing jobs and finish jobs on site. Mine was a reconditioned unit and I have never experienced any problems and I use it, the larger tank does need to be drained regularly though, overall good compressor.
DeWalt takes a classic to a new level - Last yearI spent many months researching a replacement for my ailing Campbell-Hausfeld oilless compressor. Originally I figured the CH had a higher air output, needed no oil changes, would work on slopes and start in cold weather. After forking over the big bucks and putting it to work for DeWalt's 30 Day trial period I couldn't believe I'd gone so long without this compressor.
    1) First of all the Emglo name on the unit reassured me that I was getting a tool built by the industry leader with a great reputation for tough, dependable compressors. The first day on the job proved it with quick cycling times and ample air at all times. I do a lot of work in luxury high rises and I've often left the compressor at home rather than drag it down endless corridors. I've paid for the compressor already in labor savings by bringing it to every trim job. I've had othe craftsmen come over and ogle the compressor and ask questions about it, but mostly admiring it.

In short, this is a serious tool for the professional contractor with loads of power(delivered air), durability, great design and looks. My only complaint is the air release lever, an otherwise solid unit mounted on the underside of the tank. The opening is too narrow for your hand and the sharp stream of air can actually cut your skin. In addition the compressor shoots out small chunks of ICE from the tank creating dangerous projectiles that will cut your hand or riccochet into your eye.
Finally, I have a compressor that won't roll around in the back of the truck knocking off gauges and connections as I drive through the city.

Dewalt and Emglo make a complete package, great compressor! - Someone decided they needed my trim compressor more then I did so I had to purchase another one. I must admit I was not to broken harted about it though because I have had my eye on Dewalt's new compressor now for some time. The sleek design, the way it protects its gauges, and its 2 quick conect air ports kept calling me every time I saw this compressor. I was not disapointed!! The unit is a little heavy for a portable compressor at over 60 lbs. Inside a house a compressor's noise can seem to be greatly magnified but this unit seems almost quiet, it runs so smooth. I had a larger compressor for framing but this Dewalt compressor has done so well that I have sold my larger one and rely on just this one. The unit really has no real flaws at all the air drain has a great little lever to drain the tank with, but it does blow out hard if you open it to quick and I am not convinced it drains all the condesation real well. There is a little black breaker on the compressor unit which can be a little dificult to locate and reset, it would be nice if on a newer version Dewalt would move it to the front with the gauges and quick connects. It has triped several time on us if we try and run too many things at a time such as a miter saw, table saw, and the compressor, but for normal use the draw of this compressor seems fine even on a 15amp breaker.
To sum it all up this is one really nice complete package compressor!! It is small enough for the little jobs yet tough enough for the more demanding jobs, within reason, remember it is only a 4 gallon, running at less the 15amp, compressor. With Dewalt and Emglo combine you will not go wrong buying this compressor, and unless you get a defective unit which happens with all products from time to time, you will have a compressor that should last a long time.

Oil ? - I have had this compressor for a couple of years now, never had a problem with it so far. I would say it's not exactly the lightest portable compressor out there, and most of the time I wish it had wheels. I have another larger more stationary compressor that is a different brand that gets used more out in the main shop. There are a few minor flaws that could be fixed relatively easily with this compressor. The air filter sticks out of the cage a little too far, looks like it's prone to bumps. And last but not least, the control panel, nice easy access and readability, and I like the dual air outlets, but they stick out of the roll cage after you install a pair of female couplers. Otherwise it seems like a good unit, it doesn't take long to cycle on an empty tank.

This Porter-Cable 2-horsepower, 6-gallon pancake compressor transports easily but has plenty of capacity and power--enough to support heavy use of brad and finish nailers and moderate use of framing nailers. Features include a high-flow regulator, an easy-to-read air pressure gauge, automatic thermal overload protection, an industrial-style quick-connect body in the air outlet, and a long-life motor with replaceable brushes. The compressor weighs 32 pounds and has a handle built into the motor housing, so it's relatively portable. This Porter-Cable is as convenient and easy to use as any compressor out there, and it's just about ideal for brad and finish nailers that are being used inside people's homes on a regular basis. --Jonathon Tudor

    From the Manufacturer
This oil-free 2-hp pancake-style air compressor has a new high pressure design that provides 28-percent more usable air! This allows more run time and less down time. The high-flow regulator keeps the tank pressure between 120 PSI and 150 PSI, allowing a greater reserve air capacity. Lightweight for portability, this compressor has plenty of power to fire all brad and finishing nailers as well as moderate usage of roofing and framing nailers. Includes compressor, high flow air regulator and gauges, quick coupler, and instruction manual.8 HP Running

Plenty of Gas - It's a little loud while filling it's tank but I can live with that based on it's performance.
A good Specialized Compressor - This compressor is great for what it was designed for. And, that was an intermittant duty compressor for single nail gun operation. Now this kind of motor is very powerful for its size and weight, but it cannot match the heavier and larger brush free induction motors of larger compressors. I use this compressor with great satisfaction running some trim and 15 gauge nailers. If rewiring your wifes toaster brings on a cold sweat, you will need to bring this compressor to an authorized service center as well as your bank card. The compressor is oil less, so along with less maintanance, less mess on wood work and so on will be realized. I really like the rubber hose connecting the compressor section from the tank. The hose should last the life of the compressor which will be quite a long time if you use the unit within its stated design parameters.
Once pneumatic, you never go back - The Porter-Cable 2HP 6-gallon pancake compressor is a reasonably powerful and reasonably portable air compressor. I only recently purchased one but I am already sold on pneumatic tools, which the PC 6-gallon compressor operates surprisingly well. Although many pneumatic tools, such as air hammers, drills, and sanders, consume quite a bit of air (generally in the neighborhood of 5 CFM at 90 PSI), I have found that my PC compressor does just fine with its modest 2. Unless you need to operate the tools continuously for long periods, the 6-gallon tank provides sufficient ballast to keep them happily buzzing and spinning at full power. My one complaint is that the motor and compressor are a bit louder than I expected. Then again, the noise of the compressor is hardly noticeable above the din of an air hammer, so I'm not sure it really matters.

If you enjoy using power tools and you have not yet experienced the pleasures of pneumatic gizmos, you should consider purchasing a small but serious compressor like the PC 2HP 6-gallon pancake. It's truly amazing how versatile compressed air is; basically any tool that runs on electricity also comes in a pneumatic version (well, except for arc welders).

But be warned! If you take the plunge into pneumatic tools, there is an endless stream of items you will find yourself purchasing: air tool lubricants and cleaning kits, in-line oilers, air hoses and gauges, quick connectors, air filters, oil-water separators, Teflon tape, universal air hose joints, air manifolds, blowguns with assorted nozzles, etc.)

One odd thing I've noticed is that the PC 6-gallon compressor is virtually identical to the Craftsman 6-gallon compressor, right down to the paint job.
