At just a foot high and less than two feet wide out of the carton, this compressor was quite a bit smaller than we expected, so to be fair, we quickly lowered our expectations. The joke was on us, though, because this little powerhouse just doesnt quit, and we learned that you cant judge a compressor by its size. Emglos half-century in the compressor business is evident in this model, and with a couple of small exceptions (well get into that in a minute), we dont think anyone could make a finer piece ofair power. To let out any moisture thats accumulated, its just an easy turn of the ball-valve tank drain, then just wrap the cord on its holder and youre ready to go. Now, this may be a plus or a minus in your book, but we liked the fact that the compressor is factory set to power on at 100 psi an+d shut off at 120 psi, and the cycle time was under 15 seconds.) It has air aplenty for two nailers at once, and with that fast recovery, the job will get done in no time. What you do want to watch out for, though, is the proximity of the reset switch to parts that get searingly hot while in use.
In balance, this is one of the best compressors weve seen for the size, power, ruggedness and incredible portability it offers. Heres to a great pairing of two great toolmakers.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste

found in D55155's reviews: A pleasure to use - After putting a Porter-Cable pancake unit through its paces for two years, the unit developed an annoying tendancy to run continuously until it was manually shut off. Well, I managed to get the entire purchase price refunded, after two years of use, and immediately purchased the Dewalt 55155. What a nice piece! It is very well constructed, runs smoothly, carries easily, and has plenty of capacity for any framing or finish tasks I've thrown at it. The only item I found could use more thought was the routing of the power cable from the switch box to the motor - somewhat vulnerable, yet still protected by the base of the unit. Oh, and the clean ball-valve drain set-up is a dream after the previous brass screw type that had a tendancy to seize. No bad feelings about P-C products, the pancake compressor just gave up the ghost early and had to be replaced with a more capable unit - so far the Dewalt seems like a super piece.

Porter-Cable is proud to introduce our first oil-lube compressor. When we first put our engineers on the task of designing an oil-lube compressor we gave them one priority; it could not have the same imported pump as all the other major brands have. Just as in a car, the lubrication system in the pump is the most vital part in a compressor. That is why this unit was designed with a patent pending oil slinger design as an integral part of the crankshaft that continues to lubricate the piston in any angle. The design features don't stop there; it boasts a cast-iron cylinder, stainless steel Swedish valves, and an automotive type paper filter to trap unwanted particles before they enter the system. The crankcase itself was designed to hold 8 ounces ofoil, twice as much as in competitive models. found in EC12's reviews: Excellent Value - Compact & NOT too noisy! - I initially bought one of those oil-less 'Pancake' typecompressors. It was so noisy and could not stay put because of vibration that I returned it the same day! The Hitachi unit was just $60 more and is a brilliant piece of engineering design (executed in Italy).

found in CPLDC2540S's reviews: A- compressor except for the regulator - I've been searching for a portable compressor for a couple of months now and near the end came up with three to chose from: the Emglo 55155, a Hitachi dual stack and this PC. My requirements were portability (60 lbs or so), oil lubed, at least 4. Other compressors did meet these, but what draw me was the oil lube system that permits you to use it on uneven surfaces. This should be the norm! Other good things are excellent build (USA), non-ball type draincock (ice can ruin a brass ball), pressure release valve (to lower the pressure before you open draincock that can shoot projectiles), caged, not too bad noise level about 83 dbA (noisy street), lower running 1.5max) to not trip the circuit breakers, filtered intake (not output though) for longer motor life, shrouded motor for airflow from fan and good manual. The regulator unit is actually the weak link here, made of plastic and from Taiwan. The small metal cup also bit part of the plastic grommet retainer. The only thing I added at the universal coupler end is a water/air filter.

found in TG-400HST's reviews: Air Cube 1 - This compressor is a contractor's dream.4 CFM @ 100 PSI air delivery. This 1-1/2 foot cube gas compressor fits in the trunk of a midsize vehicle. This is the only gas power compressor that I have worked with that a single average size person can move (alone).
The 4 HP Honda engine is efficient and can operate a workday on one tank of gas. The engine optimizes fuel efficiency by automatically slowing to an ideal speed when the air tanks are full. The engine has three operator controls: on/off, choke and fuel shut-off. The fuel line should be shutoff before turning off the engine to ensure an easy startup. Like most Honda engines, the engine has a low oil shutoff sensor.
The engine, even while operating faster to fill the air tanks, is relatively quiet allowing a normal conversation a few feet away. It is quieter than the pancake compressors I have used.
Each air tank has a separate moisture drain valve to keep the tanks from rusting on the inside.
The unit is well painted with a durable paint that is standing up well to the daily abuse of our construction site.
The best feature of all is, no more electrical extension cords, no worries about breaker amperage ratings and no more length of wire power drop concerns.
* The air regulator comes with two 1/4" female NPT thread connections. One of the connections has a hex plug. The plug has some typeof thread glue to lock it in place and keep it from vibrating off. Since I could not remove the stripped hex plug, I used the air gage connection to add a tee.

These to pieces are located on the side of the unit, right next to the outer wall of the cardboard shipping box. So, if this package was dropped on its side, which very likely, it would receive this typeof damage. Arrived damaged II1 - As with my first experience the second Makita aircompressor arrived in the same condition. The elbow sticks out away from the compressor and it is very fragile and shears off with any typeof contact from anything. Can you imagine every time the compressor were to hit anything or tip over the elbow would shear off.
Amazon was slow to ship and I got an email that said they were having trouble shipping the compressor to me. I don't know what kind of trouble but the compressor was sent to me several days after the initial time for shipping.
They are going to come and pick up the compressor and refund my money after they get the compressor.

found in MAC2400's reviews: The other Reviews are Correct, this is a great compressor - This is a quality compressor. In this day and age of plastic junk, I am surprised some of the reviews complained about wieght.
The compressor is just as quiet as others report. I have it in the corner of my workshop about 10 from me.
Why did I get this compressor? In sum, (1) I wanted a GOOD quality tool that was not Chineese junk, (2) I wanted at least 4 cfm for tools and (2) I did not want to spend a fortune. There seems to be several classes or levels ofcompressor in the lower price range. Unless you are getting a specialized mini-compressor just for a small brad gun, the $125-175 compressors are mostly junk: loud and rough. This Makita is in the next step up, with compressors in the $225 to 325 range. Most of this second tier are either made for just for job sites or are just bigger cheaply made compressors. The Dewalt is an excellent compressor, but you cannot use it next to you in an exclosed shop -- its too loud. It is a very well made little compressor. It has a dual personality: it works and looks great in the corner of the shop AND is perfect for taking to a job site or the back yard. Best of both worlds.
The compressor seems to live up to its specs. When I went to use a Snap-On 7200 3/8" air ratchet, the performance was just adequate. But then again, that is not the typeof tool I wanted this for.
I have not owned a compressor is many years. I looked long and hard for the best of all worlds: quality, size, price, and cfm. But for a serious homeowner that appreciates quality tools and needs a general purpose compressor, I believe I found the perfect compressor.
