Wall mount air compressor - While it is nice to have the compressor mounted on the wall and up off the floor, this one does not have the performance I had hoped for. It is more nosey then I thought it would be, the tank is too small. It seems like the compressor is always running. I wish I had bought a larger compressor for the same money at Sears.

Thomas Industries T-635HD is a quiet running (69-decibel) 3/4 HP compressor that is both portable and versatile. Other uses include, tire inflating, painting, airbrushing, small air tools, and winterizing water lines and RV's.
found in T-635HD's reviews:
Its a blessing - It is ideal for any small project contactor. Spare your back one less heavy thing to pick up all the time and get one of these wonderfully engineered compressors.
Light weight professional grade compressor for small jobs - I was looking for a portable and not overly loud air compressor, for my low air-volume tools. I had a 4-gallon pancake compressor for several years, but at 70 lbs. It's also very small: 16" long, 17. Although it hardly qualifies as "quiet", it isn't nearly as noisy as other compressors I've heard. I installed a 16" stainless steel braided faucet plumbing hose on the compressor's air-outlet port; routed the hose out the back under the motor support, and screwed on a quick disconnect coupling. Because the tank is only 2 gallons (to keep weight/bulk down), the pump comes on more often than on larger units, but when it does, it's only on for about 12 seconds (if you're not using air). Translation: the compressor can be used continuously, without letup. Some compressors have only a 50% duty cycle, which means you shouldn't run it more than 30 minutes for every hour used, as that could cause excessive wear on the pump and/or motor.

You'd want a bigger unit if you had two roofing or stud-nailers going, but for low-air-volume requirements such as trim work, this little Thomas unit is just about perfect.

September 2006 update:

While working on a home renovation project, the compressor's low air pressure switch clicked, but the motor didn't start. By the time I got to the compressor, the motor was smoking, literally.

Compressors/Thomas T-635HD - Light weight, dependable; and quiet! This is what I was looking for in a compressor.and this is why I specifically went looking for Thomas Compressors.Since then I have been waiting for my Emglo to get retired so I too can be a proud owner of a Thomas T-635HD

One thing that I did not like when my Thomas T-635HD arrived was a real lack of directions to assemble the few parts that did need to be put on before operation, but anyone with common knowlege of compressors will figure it out.

This compressor is not intended for HIGH-PRODUCTION ie. if you are in the market for a compressor that is small, light;and dependabley quiet. Your search has ended here !

Don't get fooled by tool packs that come with nail gun, air-hose and compressor in one deal you will be looking for a new compressor soon.

At just a foot high and less than two feet wide out of the carton, this compressor was quite a bit smaller than we expected, so to be fair, we quickly lowered our expectations. The joke was on us, though, because this little powerhouse just doesn’t quit, and we learned that you can’t judge a compressor by its size. Emglo’s half-century in the compressor business is evident in this model, and with a couple of small exceptions (we’ll get into that in a minute), we don’t think anyone could make a finer piece of air power. Now, this may be a plus or a minus in your book, but we liked the fact that the compressor is factory set to power on at 100 psi an+d shut off at 120 psi, and the cycle time was under 15 seconds.) It has air aplenty for two nailers at once, and with that fast recovery, the job will get done in no time.

In balance, this is one of the best compressor’s we’ve seen for the size, power, ruggedness and incredible portability it offers. Here’s to a great pairing of two great toolmakers.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste

2 HP, 4 Gallon, Electric Single Tank Hand Carry Compressor, 4.
found in D55155's reviews:
Perfect compressor for small jobs - This compressor will fill all your needs for small jobs on the worksite. It is flawless for air tools that do not require a large continuous flow of high pressure air. I've used it with a dewalt finishing nailer, brad nailer, air blower, porter cable gravity feed spray gun, and husky cut off wheel. Heavy use of my 4" grinder will cause the motor to be on constantly and air pressure will drop too low to power the grinder at usable rpms.
A nice small compressor - I bought this air compressor to do light construction work. I have to say that I was a little skeptical at first about using a small compressor for roofing or framing nailers but I was satisfied after the first time I used it. This compressor has impressed me more than most of my other tools. I have ran the compressor off of 100 foot 12 gauge cord and haven't noticed any problems at all. I have a gas powered Emglo compressor and the quality is outstanding. Other than that it has been a really great compressor and I would recommend this compressor over any other in its class. It may cost a little more but you won't have to replace it like the other compressors.
small to the larger jobs - the compressor is a little heavy, but workable.
Solid Performer. - I am a general contractor who needed a better compressor to do small framing jobs and finish jobs on site. Mine was a reconditioned unit and I have never experienced any problems and I use it, the larger tank does need to be drained regularly though, overall good compressor.
it's too much! - This is a great compressor. certainly too small for the average construction guy with gorilla hands. I've one additional bad thing to say and that is that DeWalt could use some better paint to go with such a great looking compressor! there's already rust on my cylinder housing and I only purchased the unit a week ago! But overall, I would recommend it highly.
Dewalt and Emglo make a complete package, great compressor! - Someone decided they needed my trim compressor more then I did so I had to purchase another one. I must admit I was not to broken harted about it though because I have had my eye on Dewalt's new compressor now for some time. The sleek design, the way it protects its gauges, and its 2 quick conect air ports kept calling me every time I saw this compressor. I was not disapointed!! The unit is a little heavy for a portable compressor at over 60 lbs. Inside a house a compressor's noise can seem to be greatly magnified but this unit seems almost quiet, it runs so smooth. I had a larger compressor for framing but this Dewalt compressor has done so well that I have sold my larger one and rely on just this one. The unit really has no real flaws at all the air drain has a great little lever to drain the tank with, but it does blow out hard if you open it to quick and I am not convinced it drains all the condesation real well. There is a little black breaker on the compressor unit which can be a little dificult to locate and reset, it would be nice if on a newer version Dewalt would move it to the front with the gauges and quick connects. It has triped several time on us if we try and run too many things at a time such as a miter saw, table saw, and the compressor, but for normal use the draw of this compressor seems fine even on a 15amp breaker.
To sum it all up this is one really nice complete package compressor!! It is small enough for the little jobs yet tough enough for the more demanding jobs, within reason, remember it is only a 4 gallon, running at less the 15amp, compressor. With Dewalt and Emglo combine you will not go wrong buying this compressor, and unless you get a defective unit which happens with all products from time to time, you will have a compressor that should last a long time.

DeWalt takes a classic to a new level - Last yearI spent many months researching a replacement for my ailing Campbell-Hausfeld oilless compressor. Originally I figured the CH had a higher air output, needed no oil changes, would work on slopes and start in cold weather. After forking over the big bucks and putting it to work for DeWalt's 30 Day trial period I couldn't believe I'd gone so long without this compressor.
1) First of all the Emglo name on the unit reassured me that I was getting a tool built by the industry leader with a great reputation for tough, dependable compressors. The first day on the job proved it with quick cycling times and ample air at all times. I do a lot of work in luxury high rises and I've often left the compressor at home rather than drag it down endless corridors. I've paid for the compressor already in labor savings by bringing it to every trim job. I've had othe craftsmen come over and ogle the compressor and ask questions about it, but mostly admiring it.

In short, this is a serious tool for the professional contractor with loads of power(delivered air), durability, great design and looks. My only complaint is the air release lever, an otherwise solid unit mounted on the underside of the tank. The opening is too narrow for your hand and the sharp stream of air can actually cut your skin. In addition the compressor shoots out small chunks of ICE from the tank creating dangerous projectiles that will cut your hand or riccochet into your eye.
Finally, I have a compressor that won't roll around in the back of the truck knocking off gauges and connections as I drive through the city.

Best in Class - Quiet, small and lightweight. Will run a big nailer all day with very little catch-up, Will run on a small (Honda 2000) generator.
Very good - The compressor is packed very well without any damage. Small and strong. After running it over 20 minuates, I discovered that I did not install the air filter.
Reviewer from Arizona - I am pleased with this Makita's compressor. Comparing it to other light weight/low capacity compressors I had before the engine noise is not that bad. For instance the air filter is place in an aluminum container whereas most other small compressors use plastic containers instead which can easily break off.
shipping problems - The unloading elbow had a small fitting broken off inside. Amazon would have taken the compressor back but we didn't want the chance of receiving another broken compressor. The compressor is very quiet and works well so far.
Hot Dogg ! - Makita has put a full size, quiet, oil-lubed motor on a small, lighter weight tank; about 20lbs lighter than the 4 gallon tanks. This makes it great for carrying up stairs and around the job site. The smaller size means it can fit through studs or sit in the footwell of your vehicle. Of course, with the smaller tank (2.
Great compressor, but check the box thouroughly before signing for delivery! - After working with a friend's older version of this compressor for the last eight months, I decided to splurge and get my own. If this compressor is anything like the older model, it's going to last forever. When it arrived, I checked the box, and there was only one small ding in a corner. It looks like someone must've dropped it, and from a pretty good height! One of the legs was bent about 2 inches, so the compressor would rock when set down. Fortunately, the compressor itself (external tubes and gauges and whatnot) are all fine. It's annoying, but I don't want to go through the exchange process and be without air for another two weeks.

The startup process is fairly simple. There are two plastic plugs on the compressor that need to come out. One covers the oil filler, and one covers the air intake port. You replace the plug on the air intake port (topmost plug) with the included air filter, and you replace the oil filler plug with the included oil cap. Then, open the air release valve at the very bottom of the air tank and run the compressor for 20 minutes. Check the oil level periodically, of course!

On a related note, I also bought the Campbell Hausfeld MP520010AV air tool accessory kit to get me started.

Quiet, Solid, Well Made - I wanted a portable compressor for using my nail guns at old houses, and was ready to replace my antique mastodon shop compressor. I was thinking I may have to buy two compressors, most portable units were too loud for the shop. A few weeks ago I bought a Ridgid brand "oil-free" compressor at Home Depot but it was so loud that I couldn't use it indoors, even covered with a chunk of old carpet. It had good air flow.3 CFM is higher than many of the 75-pound twin stack compressors I saw. To reduce cycling in the shop, I attached my 5-gallon air tank (the kind you use for putting air in a flat tire) to the tank side of the regulator with a T and snap coupler.like don't use the compressor in the bathtub. It's a large, high quality compressor mounted on a small, portable tank. You'll get really spoiled if you're used to a noisy oil-less compressor.

The new MAC2400 - Twin Stack air compressor by Makita is blowing away the competition.3 amps to operate, a lower 1720 RPM rating and a heavy duty Intake Air Filter system like no other, its easy to see how this unit will out last and outperform everyone else. Large automotive style industrial air filter for increased air intake and greater efficiency.
found in MAC2400's reviews:
Quiet as can be... - If you have a small shop or space where a compressor is close to your work, you will appreciate how quiet the 1725 rpm motor is on this compressor. The unit is heavy, and not likely to provide enough air to simultaneously run 2 heavy framing guns, but it shines in an environment where you are running finish nailers in a closed space.
A great compressor - Not only is this compressor a great looker, it performs flawlessly. It is the most quiet operating twin stack compressor I have used. However, a couple of small wheels, a clever home made removeable handle,I can wheel it around effortlessly.
Minnesota Charlie - The compressor arrived in good condition, no damage during shipping. I used it with several air tools like ratchet, impact wrench, stapler, finish nailer, and framing nailer. The air cleaner seems loose and doesn't fit as snugly as it should to the motor. One small problem, it is very heavy to move around but that is a sign of quality.
RAD DUDE 1 - I received this compressor in excellent condition, except for a little external packaging damage. A close friend of mine has a comparable Dewalt unit, and both of us have noticed that the Makita is substantially quieter, which is very important in small enclosed work area such as mine. I highly recommend this compressor to anyone who is a home hobbist or for less demanding construction site applications.
Great portable compressor! - I have used this compressor for about 2 months with absolutely no problem. This is the quietest compressor I have owned and sure is a pleasure to not hear the noise, especially in a small room. I have used the compressor to run a framing nailer, air drill, and impact wrench with no problems. With the air drill it took a couple times letting the air compressor recharge the tanks before I could get full power out of the drill. This is a great air compressor for anyone wanting a quite portable unit! .
Excellent compressor - It is heavy, but so are all of the other compressors in its class. It is QUIET which is something I cannot say for any other compressor in its class. It is possible to co-exist in a small space with this machine while nailing and blowing down work frequently. It is also an easy 2 handed carry: By placing each hand on the sides of the tubular frame (not the top where the rubber grip is) I can safely carry this thing up and down stairs.
Best in class - I think it's the best for the following:
A) This compressor just purrs.
B) Over-built compressor compared to tank size - so cycle times are very short - if using light-duty tools, it doesn't run much anyway.
C) No leaks - holds its air pressure seemingly forever when turned off (not that you shouldn't release pressure when done using it).
D) The air filter is a miniature version of an old-time car air filter. The glaring exception is the air filter hanging off the side - I can see this part's going to be replaced at some point when I throw it in a truck bed. In this case, the air filter is just thrown in loose inside the box - mine broke one of the gauge glasses. will send out small parts, but it's a PITA to get a product this good only to have to fix it right out of the box.

The other Reviews are Correct, this is a great compressor - This is a quality compressor.

The compressor is just as quiet as others report.

Why did I get this compressor? In sum, (1) I wanted a GOOD quality tool that was not Chineese junk, (2) I wanted at least 4 cfm for tools and (2) I did not want to spend a fortune. There seems to be several classes or levels of compressor in the lower price range. Unless you are getting a specialized mini-compressor just for a small brad gun, the $125-175 compressors are mostly junk: loud and rough. This Makita is in the next step up, with compressors in the $225 to 325 range. Most of this second tier are either made for just for job sites or are just bigger cheaply made compressors. The Dewalt is an excellent compressor, but you cannot use it next to you in an exclosed shop -- its too loud. It is a very well made little compressor.

The compressor seems to live up to its specs. When I went to use a Snap-On 7200 3/8" air ratchet, the performance was just adequate.

I have not owned a compressor is many years. But for a serious homeowner that appreciates quality tools and needs a general purpose compressor, I believe I found the perfect compressor.

found in PC0947's reviews:
Very Satisfied - The compressor is small and light, easily fits in the trunk or back seat, a breeze to move from place to place. I live in an apartment, and I agree with others who have found the noise level lower than other compressors, a blessing in that environment.

Not having any experience with air tools, yet knowing it was the way to go to install casing and baseboard in my kitchen remodel, I agonized over whether to get a brad or finish nailer. The holes it makes are small, it is easy to handle, and drives the brads where I want them.

I used this product - I too had a problem with the 1/4 tubing that is attached to the compressor it cracked right where it bends I used to intall wainscotting and it worked fine. overall for the price it worth it for small jobs.
don't buy it! - Thought this compressor would be the answer for smaller jobs. I bought the compressor only as I own senco guns already. It lasted only three small jobs, maybe 300 fasteners shot with this compressor and it stopped working.
I'm impressed. - The compressor is small & quiet and has absolutely no problem keeping up with the nailer. I own an old 5 horse 220 v compressor but wanted something to use inside the house without running hundreds of feet of hose from the garage.
This contractor is very pleased... with the compressor - I own several portable compressors, but hate to lug them around. The little compressor is lightweight and perfect for small jobs like these. On bigger jobs I still use one of my heavy duty compressors.
Woodworker Hobby or Trim Tool - The nailer is a quality tool that sells for $120 everywhere so that makes the compressor only $75. I had a $15 coupon so the compressor was only $60 for me.
The compressor is so light that it is no problem carrying it. Getting to small jobs and using this little tool is a pleasure. I will get an air blower tip for it; so far I'm satisfied.

My new favorite tool! -

THE BRAD NAILER:
The gun is lightweight and small enough to get into tight spots, yet it appears to be very well built.

THE COMPRESSOR:
The PC1010 will change the industry. For homeowners, hobby woodworkers, and customer service professionals in the cabinetry industry this is the perfect compressor. There is no need to lug around a 4 or 6 gallon compressor for a little brad nailer. You can easily carry the nailer, hose, and bread box sized compressor in one hand. I nailed right through the recovery time, and never had to wait for the compressor to before driving any brads. I would not recommend the PC1010 for anyone who wants to drive anything larger than 18ga brads, or run multiple air tools from a single compressor. Also - the compressor is so new that Senco has very limited literature on it, but I would be willing to bet they will get this taken care of soon.

This Porter-Cable 2-horsepower, 6-gallon pancake compressor transports easily but has plenty of capacity and power--enough to support heavy use of brad and finish nailers and moderate use of framing nailers. Features include a high-flow regulator, an easy-to-read air pressure gauge, automatic thermal overload protection, an industrial-style quick-connect body in the air outlet, and a long-life motor with replaceable brushes. The compressor weighs 32 pounds and has a handle built into the motor housing, so it's relatively portable. This Porter-Cable is as convenient and easy to use as any compressor out there, and it's just about ideal for brad and finish nailers that are being used inside people's homes on a regular basis. --Jonathon Tudor

From the Manufacturer
This oil-free 2-hp pancake-style air compressor has a new high pressure design that provides 28-percent more usable air! This allows more run time and less down time. The high-flow regulator keeps the tank pressure between 120 PSI and 150 PSI, allowing a greater reserve air capacity. Lightweight for portability, this compressor has plenty of power to fire all brad and finishing nailers as well as moderate usage of roofing and framing nailers. Includes compressor, high flow air regulator and gauges, quick coupler, and instruction manual.8 HP Running

Perfect for my needs and budget too - I have a small workshop with very little space and I need to have "air" available at times. The dial-up pressure regulator makes the use of certain accessories such as a small impact wrench or hammer much easier. The particular unit that I purchased at a local home center offered this compressor packed with a coiled air hose, blow gun, tire chuck, tire pressure gauge, NPT fittings, etc. However, I made a separate purchase of a 50' length of regular braided air hose for increased flexibility and mobility. If you need a sturdy and durable small unit for your shop, look very closely at this one. Also, it's a bit difficult to use certain air tools with this model because the capacity and constant volume of air are not that great.
Good compressor for a good price - I've owned a large compressor for years and needed something that can easily be ported anywhere - the large one is nice, but combersome for small jobs.

This small compressor is actually used a lot more than my original compressor.

Spraying paint I haven't tried and probably would not work well - it just doesn't have the air delivery. That is what my large compressor is used for.

It is an oil-less compressor - so it is relatively noisy but noise means power, no? :)
      .

poor value - I had this compressor 2 yrs it worked well for small short term jobs.
Porter Cable CPFAC2600P Compressor - Pro: Great little compressor for mobile and small shop use. I use it very often to run air nailers for doing molding on the house and back out to the garage to run a paint/finish sprayer.
Once pneumatic, you never go back - The Porter-Cable 2HP 6-gallon pancake compressor is a reasonably powerful and reasonably portable air compressor. I only recently purchased one but I am already sold on pneumatic tools, which the PC 6-gallon compressor operates surprisingly well. Although many pneumatic tools, such as air hammers, drills, and sanders, consume quite a bit of air (generally in the neighborhood of 5 CFM at 90 PSI), I have found that my PC compressor does just fine with its modest 2. My one complaint is that the motor and compressor are a bit louder than I expected. Then again, the noise of the compressor is hardly noticeable above the din of an air hammer, so I'm not sure it really matters.

If you enjoy using power tools and you have not yet experienced the pleasures of pneumatic gizmos, you should consider purchasing a small but serious compressor like the PC 2HP 6-gallon pancake. It's truly amazing how versatile compressed air is; basically any tool that runs on electricity also comes in a pneumatic version (well, except for arc welders).

But be warned! If you take the plunge into pneumatic tools, there is an endless stream of items you will find yourself purchasing: air tool lubricants and cleaning kits, in-line oilers, air hoses and gauges, quick connectors, air filters, oil-water separators, Teflon tape, universal air hose joints, air manifolds, blowguns with assorted nozzles, etc.)

One odd thing I've noticed is that the PC 6-gallon compressor is virtually identical to the Craftsman 6-gallon compressor, right down to the paint job.
