found in C3151's reviews: Fine for finish nailers - This compressor is LOUD and ear protection should be worn if you work near it. It can't keep up with one PorterCable Mag framing nailer when bounce nailing sheeting and runs constantly. ok compressor - I've had this compressor for about 3 years and while it is a good compressor I find it to be very loud compared to others in the same class. Finally Portercable needs a better system for the cord. Porter-Cable C3151 - I asked tech support if this could just need to have the regulator adjusted - they said no; take it to a repair center. Left at repair center; after repair, informed they 'adjusted the regulator. Also doesn't appear to put out the volume of air advertised. From a homeowner - This is a great compressor. The manual says 15 Amps, but its more like a hair above that. The copper one that pumps the air into the reservoir. (I definitely wouldn't want to buy a second compressor for that either. Aside from those minor inconveniences (hence the 4-stars), this is a very plug-and-playable compressor for the DIY homeowner. I made the mistake of buying one of the pancake style compressors and found it a little weak for doing the basement framing.

found in C3551's reviews: way to go portercable BEST MACHINE ON THE MARKET - this my 2nd aircompressor matter fact I was building a arbor for the back yard after pressure was reached for nailgun I work over 1 hour before the compressor recycled the only problem I have had is to set the pressure on the nail gun after about 2 tries it worked perfect. I really like the idea on the removeable gauge face the compressor stay in 1 spot and 50 to 100 feet you can attact the face to a fixed object so you can save on trips back to the compressor when you need another nailgun as in replaceing the framer to finishing gun .great idea portercable WAY TO GO PORTERCABLE. Get a clue PorterCable! - First I will start by saying PC makes a good compressor and we have two at the company I work for. The first C3551 showed up with the roll cage dented in two places, the air filter post bent, scratched everywhere and the big problem something metal was loose in the engine and you could hear it banging around as you moved the compressor around. I called PorterCable and they said it was probaly droped in shipping. Now for my real gripe, PorterCable you really need to start packing your product better. compressor was two flimsy pieces of cardboard on either side of the unit. I think all of my problems could have been solved with better packaging and PorterCable would have kept the sale. Performs to expectations - I purchased the portercable model C3551 after considering the Dewalt suitcase carry model. Although the Dewalt weighed 20 pounds less, I liked the PorterCable model that rolls. I called PorterCable, and they are sending me a replacement guage. I specifically wanted an oil lube compressor for durability, and this model fits that requirement.
The PorterCable logo was not put on with the greatest of care, but it hardly merits any bad criticism. For handyman work or specialty trim nailing, this compressor is ideal. PorterCable lacks quality control - After following the breaking procedure, I noticed that the regulator wouldn't let out any air. (Also, the compressor being so quiet won me over and I was willing to overlook few minor problems in order to keep it.)
I contacted PorterCable through email for suggestion, since nothing from the trouble-shooting section of the manual hinted on what might be the problem. PorterCable's response came too late (four days), by then I had returned it to Amazon for exchange.
PorterCable indicated the problem might be due to the regulator being blocked by a dope sealant, and suggested I remove it to check. I will receiving a replacement compressor tomorrow and I will post how that worked out, at that point I will be adjusting my rating for the product. I bought the Porter-Cable C3551 . . . AND I'M STILL GLAD!!! - I shopped long and hard for a well built portable compressor that was durable and just plain practical. I did hands-on shopping for several different brands and types, finally choosing the Porter-Cable C3551. This is a fantastic compressor. Good idea, but a bit more durabilty would be nice - I've been using this compressor for about 2 years of daily remodeling work in Colorado in all weather conditions. I bought it because I was tired of lugging around other compressors that didn't have wheels. The rolling design of this compressor is very good because it can easily go up and down stairs as well as over typical construction site obstacles.
After a few months of use the tank pressure gauge failed, and PorterCable sent me a replacement.
After a year of use the motor kept tripping breakers, so I took the compressor in for service and it received a new compressor and motor.
I work on job sites that have ancient compressors that continue to function flawlessly (but they're really heavy to move around), so I'm a bit worried by the problems I've noticed in only 2 years of use.
Because this compressor is oil lubricated, it does get sluggish in the winter. It also cannot supply as much air as the oil-free version. A trim subcontractor I know has the oil-free version and he has to rebuild his compressor annually with a $40 repair kit, so oil free isn't entirely without issues.
If you already have a compressor you like, I'd bolt some good wheels onto it and weld a nice handle onto the frame. That way you'd have all the advantages of the PorterCable Job Boss without the durability problems. The PorterCable now sits in my garage for home projects or small jobs that where portability is the most important factor. Rattler - As some previous comments, Porter-Cable needs to do a much better job of packaging this unit!
Luckily, there was no external damage to the unit, but there is quite a few things rattling around either in the motor or the tank (I can't tell which) so, I'm afraid to put oil in it and getting it started. Mine came damaged - It looks like I'm going to go with the Dewalt D55155 instead or the Makita Hotdog since I want an oil lube compressor. Assiming I get the Dewalt, Black and Decker still wins since they own PorterCable and Dewalt. The Porter-Cable C3551 is a very nice compressor - I have a few compressors already - but they are too big and bulky to move around and my previous smaller 10 gallon compressor is getting a bit rough around the edges. 10 years old for a oil-less compressor is a pretty good.
With that said I wanted a new smaller compressor to aid in the remodel work I'm doing.
Upon receiving the compressor I gave it a quick once over.
The performance of the compressor is very good. It fills quick, cycles infrequently, and is fairly quiet.
I think this is one of the best small compressors out there. If you need a nice portable compressor - look no further. For me it came down to the DEWALT D55155 or this compressor. The Wheels! - I have given this unit a 5 star rating and this is my third compressor that I've owned over past years. (The owner of MK Diamond which makes great tilesaws told me that recently Porter-Cable was sold to Black and Decker!) Anyway, this little unit is a step above it's competition and I'm impressed. I'm going to modify my Job Boss with a Jet 3/8"x50' air hose reel bolted right on top of that cover plate and not only eleminate some of the mess with air lines snaking all over the floor but should also keep anyone from standing on that plate. You can find air hose reels in Amazon's Tool Crib listings. Good mid-range job compressor. - My old dual tank wheel barrow-style compressor that I bought at Truitt and White Lumber in Berkeley lasted for ten years of moderate but daily use in my remodeling business. When that finally broke down I bought a pancakecompressor as a quick fix, since I was doing more and more design work and gradually easing my way into retirement. So I decided to purchase this mid-range compressor.
As described below, the compressor is not the most durable. But overall, it's been a good handy compressor that I would recommend for anyone who is not engaged in heavy duty framing and running the thing 8 hours a day for months and years on end. For that you need the old double-tank wheelbarrow style compressor. Everything it promises and more.......... - All I can say is there are a LOT of portable aircompressors out there and a lot of them are junk. I did not use the oil that came with compressor though, I decided to run a fully synthetic oil (make sure it is a compressor oil) Ingersoll Rand makes a very high quailty oil for this compressor. Everything is where it should be on this compressor: knobs, gauges, ect. The only thing I would tell someone interested in this compressor is don't be fooled by PorterCables "oil-free" version of this compressor, I have done a lot of comparision shopping not only is the oil free version much noiser but you will be servicing it much more often than the oil-lube pump. Lowe's sells the "oil-free" version of this compressor for 299.00!!!!!!!! You can purchase this compressor, tax free and shipped free and it will be shipped right to your front door! What a deal! Good job Amazon!.

found in CAP2060P's reviews: it works for me - Than I found the regulator wasn't working so I called Stanley and they said to send it to one of their repair shops in my state. I also use a 3-?? inch portercable framing nailer with it and i've had no problem driving those nails in. Disappointing and noisy - Bought this to replace an old pancakecompressor. As I have many Bostitch Nailers I was very disappointed with this compressor, the only good thing I can say is that it was fairly inexpensive.

found in CPF4515's reviews: UPS damaged but works fine -
I love this work-horse of a compressor. It does what I need, and it is quieter than my last compressor from Sears. I am not easily impressed, but I am with Porter-Cable products. Please Package it! - PorterCable packaging is meant for shipping via pallet not dropping it into any parcel delivery service. This is a 1.5 HP compressor, NOT 4.5 - Porter-Cable makes fine products however this compressor is grossly under-powered and should really be sold as a 1.

found in CPFC2TV3525VP's reviews: I can get it cheaper!! - This is a compressor made by Devilbis Air Products, a division of Pentair, who also owns Delta Woodworking and Porter-Cable.
I have done some research and a two-stage compressor like this one is quieter and has more capacity than an equivalent-sized single stage unit. Not too big or too small - Looked at various oil-lubed products including the PorterCable 6025. Keep in mind this product is made by the parent company of PorterCable and sold through the other store with it's own name on it. Oddly the oil lubed PorterCable 6025 only carries a 3 year warranty, and chain store's version was way more expensive and had less warranty (1 year) vs. Can run my air ratchet or 1/2' impact quite a long time without turning on. A sander (especially a high-speed unit) uses an awful lot of air and under heavy sander use I think this unit would be "strained". Bottom line if you need a compressor but the smaller 15 to 20 gal types are not enough and a big 60 to 80 gal. GREAT FOR A WON MAN SHOP - I PURCHASED THIS COMPRESSOR ABOUT TO WEEKS AGO AND HAVE USED IT A LOT IN MY ONE MAN WOODWORKING, IT WORKS MY AIR TOOLS LIKE A DREAM. IT REPLACED,A SMALL PANCAKE COMPRESSER THAT I WAS USEING TO RUN MY NAIL GUNS I WOOD RECOMMEND THIS COMPRESSOR TO ANYONE WHO NEEDS A COMPRESSOR THAT WILL GIVE YOU ALOT OF BANG FOR YOU BUCK. Quiet, portable and powerful - I shopped around for weeks before I decided on this compressor. I wanted a compressor for home that I could run an impact on or a DA sander but I also wanted something portable that I could run a nailer on. I had planned to buy two compressors but this compressor will do both. We all know that pancake and especially stacked tank portables are great but they are also noisy, relativley expensive for a good one and really ought to have wheels in addition to the handle, because carrying one is a joke. This compressor is surprisingly quiet and is quite powerful. The two stage allows it to provide the power of a compressor twice it's capacity and uses twice the horsepower.) So if you're buying one for home or stationary use that will be run a lot, look at buying a 2-stage 240 volt compressor, it will save you money when the electric bill comes. Recovery time is what you should look for and don't expect any compressor to keep quiet for long when you're running a continuous tool like a sander. Something to consider if you're serious about buying this compressor is look at the CPFC2TV3520WK, it's the same compressor with a 20 gallon horizontal tank but it has a four port remote regulator which might be of use or interest to you. I'll post again in the future once I've used the compressor more and know it a little better. I would recommend renting a compressor or borrowing one from someone who has it prior to making your decision if you haven't used them enough to know what you want from one.

found in TG-400HST's reviews: Air Cube 1 - This compressor is a contractor's dream.4 CFM @ 100 PSI air delivery. This 1-1/2 foot cube gas compressor fits in the trunk of a midsize vehicle. This is the only gas power compressor that I have worked with that a single average size person can move (alone). The engine optimizes fuel efficiency by automatically slowing to an ideal speed when the air tanks are full.
The engine, even while operating faster to fill the air tanks, is relatively quiet allowing a normal conversation a few feet away. It is quieter than the pancakecompressors I have used.
Each air tank has a separate moisture drain valve to keep the tanks from rusting on the inside.
* The air regulator comes with two 1/4" female NPT thread connections. Since I could not remove the stripped hex plug, I used the air gage connection to add a tee.

The new MAC700 - Hotdog compressor by Makita is blowing away the competition with built-in features such as a super quiet motor that draws only 12.0HP AIRCOMPRESSOR 12. hot dog tank Low amp draw & oil lubricated Roll-bar handle Industrial air filter & cast iron cylinder Oil sight glass & lever handle ball valve Built-in thermal overload for motor protection MAC700 2HP AIRCOMPRESSOR.
found in MAC700's reviews: Great Compressor - A Little Top Heavy - This thing is built so much better than my old pancakecompressor that there's really no comparison. It's quiet (for a compressor) and handles all my nail guns without a problem. After using this for about a year, I'd say, to those with a problem: "send it back and get a good one" before I'd settle for using another basic pancake model - It's worth the hassle. Compact and well made! - I purchased this unit to replace an oil-less pancakecompressor that burned out. The Makita MAC700 is super! It has all the attributes of a large high quality oil-lube compressor. By comparison, the pancakecompressor this unit replaced was DREADFULLY loud. In my opinion, the longevity and quietness that an oil-lube compressor offers, far outweighs the time and slight inconvenience of routine maintenance. I love it! If you are looking for a light duty aircompressor, I highly recommend the MAC700 Hot Dog AirCompressor. Always damaged - I had the compressor sent out two times, both times, it arrived damaged.
The compressor looked great, felt great, only wish Makita would have packaged it with more padding. Amazon has been great about both returns, but they won't send me a third compressor. PorterCable here I come. Misleading specs - I purchased this compressor because of the many good reviews and many mentioned it's not heavy. However, when I tried to carry the compressor which was specified as being 30# it seemed heavier than that. In fact it weighed more than my 5 gal pancakecompressor. Did Makita alter the compressor in some way that added 20# to it?. Makita MAC700 -nice little compressor - I almost didn't order this compressor after reading all the reviews about shipping damage, but mine arrived in perfect shape.
My old pancakecompressor finally died. It is resonably portable and very very quiet for a compressor. Great little compressor - I have had this compressor for a couple of weeks now and really like it. I chose this model over the very popular oil-free pancakecompressors mainly for it's compact size and low noise level.
The unit is compact, but much heavier duty than similar Cr*ftman compressors I saw at Sears. I would recommend this unit to anyone looking for an occasional use compressor and does not want something large or loud.

found in MAC2400's description:From the Manufacturer
The new MAC2400 - Twin Stack aircompressor by Makita is blowing away the competition.3 amps to operate, a lower 1720 RPM rating and a heavy duty Intake Air Filter system like no other, its easy to see how this unit will out last and outperform everyone else. Large automotive style industrial air filter for increased air intake and greater efficiency.
found in MAC2400's reviews: Minnesota Charlie - The compressor arrived in good condition, no damage during shipping. The unit is very quiet compared to my PorterCablepancake (and I think it is wearing out) and recharges much quicker than the P. I used it with several air tools like ratchet, impact wrench, stapler, finish nailer, and framing nailer. The air cleaner seems loose and doesn't fit as snugly as it should to the motor. Makita MAC2400 - Its heavy but so are all the other compressors in its class. I first ordered a reconditioned porter-cable, sent it back and ordered the Makita. Decent compressor if you can get one without damage - I researched portable compressors for months before deciding on the MAC2400. Even with weight I was quite pleased with the compressor but my buying experience was much less. My first compressor from Amazon had a broken plastic motor cover which wasn't caused by shipping damage. I sent it back and Amazon had a replacement back to me in 3-4 days, Quick!, but that compressor also was damaged. The air cleaner housing was thrown on top of the compressor and beat up the control panel and one gauge from bouncing around. I was told to contact Amazon and after a week of waiting on Amazon, I was told that they could not send part (it would void warranty if replaced) and they were not going to send a replacement compressor. I packaged up the second compressor and sent back. I wasn't going to order another brand compressor from Amazon as I didn't want the hassle if damaged again. looking at Ridgid as I really didn't want a Dewalt or the PorterCablepancakecompressor which they carried. I bought a Ridgid model with a higher cfm rating, larger air tanks, wheels, handle and it came out of box without a scratch. After moving it around the house and up the stairs, I don't know how long I would have enjoyed carrying the MAC2400 or any other brand compressor that weighs 70-80lbs.
Overall the MAC2400 looked and sounded like a good compressor for the short time I had it but makes me wonder how well they are built, with so many problems between packaging and broken parts inside cartons not caused by shipping damage on the Mac700's and a few of these. If you are not in a hurry for a compressor and/or don't care about cosmetic condtion out of the box (if damaged) then Amazon is the place to buy with their best price. HEAVY = TOUGH - Great compressor i replaced my PC Pancake with this fine product and i know there is a differance in the size and weight, but i was alittle shocked how heavy it was.
