found in SS3L3's reviews:
A cheap way to get more CFM... but its still cheap. - This air compressor is identical to my Ingersoll Rand SS3L3 compressor that I purchased through Northern Tool in the early summer of 2005. This is the first air compressor that I have ever owned, so it was a learning experience from the start. a little bit of die grinding, I rotated the tires on my car using the impact wrench and air ratchet, I used it to blow dust off my work bench and check the air in my tires on a routine basis. This borderline false advertising is similar to peak and RMS power ratings in audio amplifiers, though it is fairly standard operating procedure to rate motors in this fashion. Though it is quieter than a direct drive unit like the 30 gallon compressors sold at most hardware stores, 3450 RPM is still quite fast. The "valves" in the head are what I believe are called "reed valves", which are simply spring loaded "fingers" that cover holes in the cylinder head, and they move with the blowing/sucking of air as the pistons move in the cylinders (no mechanical actuation of the valves). The compressor can run fairly hot, especially when pressurizing the tank from zero pressure. I would like to add an intercooler in line to the tank as the compressed air is quite hot, and I think the compressor itself could use some more cooling. The flywheel on the compressor is designed to move air over the unit, but I still think the design needs improvement. Copper tubing is used to route compressed air from the compressor to the tank, and I think some improvements could be made there, as well. I will continue to use this unit for some time, but I am already considering either building my own low RPM, true 4-5 HP air compressor from various parts suppliers, or just purchasing a new one from a company like Eaton Compressor. Like houses, I think good advice for someone looking to buy an air compressor is "buy the most you can afford".

It's a worker -

I had looked at alot of compressors from emglo (dewalt) and others. I also looked at the specifications as I wanted a compresor that would have fast recovery, and high air presure for driving nails in older existing framing. I wasn't sure I would use this feature, but it is great, as you have your air supply and regulator right where you are working.

found in PC2061's reviews:
Very Nice little compressor - Most of the bits that would tend to get knocked off during loadind and moving are enclosed in the plastic shrouding around the motor , and the air chuck is sensibly and securly mounted on top so pulling by the air hose shouldn't break it off as has happened with other compressors I've owned . Keeping in mind that it is oil less [which means they use teflon coated rings in stead of an oil bath] I would say it falls in the middle or slightly below for a decible rating of compressors of this type . Only the Thomas industries line of compressors could truly be called quiet from what I've seen. It still uses a 3450 rpm motor to get the air output/low 14 amp draw . Other machines sometimes have 1750 rpm motors which are quieter but pump less air.

found in CPF23400P's reviews:
Good Quality, Great Service - There are a lot of pancake compressors on the market, but this one stands out for two reasons. If you're *anywhere* near a medium sized or larger city, spare parts and repair are just a phone call away.
Maybe a good compressor, but beware of shipping -

I took the compressor to the local Porter-Cable service center and they tell me the boxes the P-C compressors come in are NOT designed to handle the rigorous treatment of UPS shipping.
Poor Engineering - Air will leak from the threads of the nipple (as was the case for me) or worse. Pancake compressors due to their top heavy nature can and do rollover, and if this unit rolls onto the gauge side, sooner or later your going to have a major problem. I discovered this design flaw when I plugged my brand new compressor in and a rush of air shot out where the gauge nipple screws to the tank.

found in FP204999AV's reviews:
Spend more money and get a REAL compressor - I bought this compressor to use for airbrushing. It worked fine for about two months, then it just quit working! The motor runs fine, and all the valves are tight, but no air!

This is honestly a disposable compressor and I'd advise anyone considering buying a compressor to save up for a REAL compressor.

It's also one of the loudest compressors of its size that I've ever used. If you need a cheap compressor for occasional use and light duty (airing up bicycle tires, blowing out birthday candles, etc.
