found in TG-400HST's reviews: Air Cube 1 - This compressor is a contractor's dream.4 CFM @ 100 PSI air delivery. This 1-1/2 foot cube gas compressor fits in the trunk of a midsize vehicle. This is the only gas power compressor that I have worked with that a single average size person can move (alone). The engine optimizes fuel efficiency by automatically slowing to an ideal speed when the air tanks are full. The fuel line should be shutoff before turning off the engine to ensure an easy startup.
The engine, even while operating faster to fill the air tanks, is relatively quiet allowing a normal conversation a few feet away. It is quieter than the pancake compressors I have used.
Each air tank has a separate moisture drain valve to keep the tanks from rusting on the inside.
* The air regulator comes with two 1/4" female NPT thread connections. Since I could not remove the stripped hex plug, I used the air gage connection to add a tee. Husky (Home Depot) has a brass tee, skew number 661-219 for this purpose.

An aircompressor isn't one of those must-have tools for the homeowner-that is, until you've used one. This eight-gallon model puts out an average of 4 standard cubic feet per minute at 90 psi, plenty for any task the homeowner or hobbyist has in mind. The HL5501 has plenty of power for a stapler or nailer; imagine how quickly a chair rail could go up. We like this model because it's compact, sturdy and, with a little maintenance and care, it will last for years and years. Because it's a smaller unit, its air delivery is lower, so make sure you check the air requirements of the tools you intend to use it with. For its size and capacity, it's a good, hard worker that will serve the homeowner well.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste

Product Description
8 Gallon, 15A Cast Iron AirCompressor, Oil Lube Pump With 2.
found in HL5501's reviews: Good lightweight compressor - I've had the HL5501 for a few months now. Until recently I used it for blowing a workbench clean and filling the cars' tires. About a month ago, the home renovation project I bought it for finally got under way. Sand blasters are notoriously hungry for volume, and the HL5501 was hard pressed to get the job done. For very occasional use, on small projects, I'll blast with it, but I don't think I'd ask it to do any production sand blasting. Twelve pairs of pintle hinges, each leg 2"x 3/16"x 20", took a long, long time.
Which brings me to my first complaint: during that job, a couple of the fittings under the protective plastic shield vibrated loose and leaked enough air that the compressor couldn't reach shut-off pressure.
The second job was powering a Porter Cable palm nailer, driving nails for framing work. For this it worked like a champ. Using the nailer at 100psi, the compressor cycled fairly regularly, but could keep up with the nailer without any trouble. It gets an A+ for that job.
Noisy? Yes, but so is every other aircompressor I've ever heard, and it cycles fast enough that for occasional use it's tolerable. For a day with the palm nailer, I use hearing protection.
My only real problem with the HL5501, other than fittings that come loose, is that the air outlet comes off the side of the manifold in such a way that by the time you've attached a water filter and a female quick-disconnect fitting, there's quite a bit of potential leverage hanging out there unprotected. I'm always worried about hitting it, or pulling the air hose too hard, or doing some such thing that bends the manifold, or tweaks the regulator, or busts the water filter.
Oh, and in freezing temperatures, the pressure release valve tends to stick open.
Excellent for hobbiest use. Adequate for renovation use. Don't buy it for sand blasting. Make sure to site it so that that air outlet is protected.

found in MAC700's reviews: Recieved damaged, Makita service hopeless - Just received this compressor from Amazon/ToolKing. The unloading elbow was snapped off from the checkvalve assy. Makita has a problem in the packing of these compressor's which leaves the valve exposed to being crushed inside the container. The valve is on the side and all it takes is a slight bump and it's sheared off.If you need to put the compressor into service right away, I suggest buying local or unfortunately another mfg.The compressor is quiet, and seems to run ok, I have only done the initial start up though.Seems to be a great little compressor. I'm going to use an easy out to remove the broken thread/stud from inside the valve and just buy the elbow locally(I hope) You can see many other posts on the internet regarding this same problem.Good luck Ron UPDATE: Sorry for the late post.(supervisor)The compressor has been in service now for around 8mo.I did solder a new elbow onto a lower area of the checkvalve which works out better when the compressor rolls on its side. Received Item, but can't use it yet. - BUT, because of the poor packaging, and the probable mishandling by UPS, the Unloading Valve was broken off inside the main CheckValve. Arrived damaged - After opening the cardboard box that was obviously crushed, I found the plastic motor cover broked and the brass unloading elbow broken-off in the checkvalve attached to the side of the tank. I fault Makita for poor packaging and the FedEx gorillas for their mishandling. Great little compressor - I've used this guy for about a month on a siding project, and it's worked very nicely. I haven't tried it with two nailers at once; that might push it a bit, but I can't say for sure. Be sure to fill with oil and install the air filter before starting. It required drilling out the checkvalve, retapping the threads, buying an equivalent part at the hardware store, and reinstalling. Serious PITA, but cost was minimal and repair works fine.
All in all, a great little compressor, and the best choice if noise is a concern. Great compressor, but check the box thouroughly before signing for delivery! - After working with a friend's older version of this compressorfor the last eight months, I decided to splurge and get my own. If this compressor is anything like the older model, it's going to last forever.
I've only had this one for 2 days, so I can't speak much about it other than to say it's quiet enough to use and talk at the same time, and it feels very well built.
One thing - I had read the other reviews that mentioned shipping damage and hoped for the best. When it arrived, I checked the box, and there was only one small ding in a corner. It looks like someone must've dropped it, and from a pretty good height! One of the legs was bent about 2 inches, so the compressor would rock when set down. Fortunately, the compressor itself (external tubes and gauges and whatnot) are all fine. It's annoying, but I don't want to go through the exchange process and be without airfor another two weeks.
The startup process is fairly simple. There are two plastic plugs on the compressor that need to come out. One covers the oil filler, and one covers the air intake port. You replace the plug on the air intake port (topmost plug) with the included air filter, and you replace the oil filler plug with the included oil cap. Before you run it for the first time, fill it (with the included oil) until the oil line is midway in the window. Then, open the air release valve at the very bottom of the air tank and run the compressorfor 20 minutes. Check the oil level periodically, of course!
On a related note, I also bought the Campbell Hausfeld MP520010AV air tool accessory kit to get me started. For the price, I'm happy with that too. Damaged Goods - The black plastic engine housing was cracked but remained in place, the air/condensation release valve at the base of the tank was broken off at the tank !?#%#! After a little hand work I removed what remained of the fitting, reversed and reinstalled the valve. Factory installed oil for testing leaked from one of the temporary oil fill caps. The unit is packaged very well with internal blocking and bracing but it must be being mis-handled during shipment for the damage I'm seeing to occur. After repairs (seems odd to repair a brand new machine) it seems to run great, no oil or air leaks. Although I've only operated the unit for about an hour it's very quiet I'd say less than 70dBA at 10 feet which is important to me since my wife and I will occassionally use it inside the house. Another Damaged compressor - both the shroud and the unloading valve were broken (see other reviews) with no apparent damage to the shipping box. Am waiting for my replacement unit (backordered) from Amazon with my fingers crossed. Makita MAC700 -nice little compressor - I almost didn't order this compressor after reading all the reviews about shipping damage, but mine arrived in perfect shape.
My old pancake compressor finally died. It is resonably portable and very very quiet for a compressor. The drain valve at the bottom makes quick work of draining the tank at the end of the day.
I've only had this for a few weeks, so I can't comment on long term reliability.
