This Porter-Cable 2-horsepower, 6-gallon pancake compressor transports easily but has plenty of capacity and power--enough to support heavy use of brad and finish nailers and moderate use of framing nailers. Features include a high-flow regulator, an easy-to-read airpressure gauge, automatic thermal overload protection, an industrial-style quick-connect body in the air outlet, and a long-life motor with replaceable brushes. The compressor weighs 32 pounds and has a handle built into the motor housing, so it's relatively portable. This Porter-Cable is as convenient and easy to use as any compressor out there, and it's just about ideal for brad and finish nailers that are being used inside people's homes on a regular basis. --Jonathon Tudor

found in CPFAC2600P's reviews: Perfect for my needs and budget too - I have a small workshop with very little space and I need to have "air" available at times. The dial-up pressureregulator makes the use of certain accessories such as a small impact wrench or hammer much easier. The particular unit that I purchased at a local home center offered this compressor packed with a coiled air hose, blow gun, tire chuck, tire pressure gauge, NPT fittings, etc. However, I made a separate purchase of a 50' length of regular braided air hose for increased flexibility and mobility. Also, it's a bit difficult to use certain air tools with this model because the capacity and constant volume of air are not that great. What you see is Not what you Get! - Don't be fooled! To start with there is no pressure switch. Plenty of Gas - Lightweight and holds it's pressure great.
One Year Warranty Supports use of all brad and finish nailers and moderate use of framing and roofing nailers High-flow regulator allows more work at higher pressures 3 hp induction motor for quieter operation High-pressure technology provides more usable air for longer run time
found in CPF23400P's reviews: A good compressor to get you started. - I shopped extensively for a light duty compressor based on the following criteria: price, weight, and flow rating. It features the same motor and compressor as the PC 3HP twin stack model but is $40 cheaper and about 10 pounds lighter.
Other than that what can I say - it pumps air. Supposedly it runs at higher pressure (135 psi max) than its competitors. It is fairly loud, but I haven't listened to many other models to make an educated comparison. I have used it quite a bit for high air flow operations, such as blowing off dust / debris and even running an air chisel to bust up concrete. It often runs full time for 5-10 minutes and is able to keep up with air demand.
However, I do agree the regulator assembly is not adequately protected from damage. If you are going to be regularly moving the compressor around, spend the extra. I actually ran a compressed air line out to my garage, so the compressor can stay put in the basement and avoid potential damage from moving it.
*** 4-year update ***
I have owned this compressor for 4+ years now and am still completely satisfied. I did have one problem with a leaky pressureregulator. I was able to fix it a few times by disassembling the regulator housing but eventually stripped one of the connectors. I used a hand held, air chisel to break up the mortar joints. The compressor was operating at 100% duty cycle for 10-15 minutes at a stretch, but couldn't quite keep up with continuous use of the air chisel. As an last ditch experiment, I bought a 10 gal portable air storage tank, some extra quick disconnect fittings and rigged up a reserve tank in parallel with the 4 gallon PC tank. (yes, I am an engineer) My thinking was that I would run the crap out of my little PC and if it bit the dust, that was my excuse to buy a new compressor. I am amazed to say the PC compressor ran flawlessly for the entire chimney demo and still works fine today. Badly designed pressure switch - The pressure switch occasionally will not shut of the compressor. There is no consistancy in the amount of pressure it builds. I phoned the service center and they said they may not have the parts for this compressor and may have to order them. Great Little Air Squeezer!!! - This little Porter Cable compressor is all (and more) that I expected it to be. It pumps the 4-gallon tank to 125 psi in less than a minute, and then cycles automatically as the pressure drops. The output should be more than adequate for my needs to run an air ratchet, blow nozzle, hand sandblaster and pressurize a small auxilliary portable tank.
The gauges, regulator and hose coupling on this model are out in the open, and exposed to potential damage if used at a busy construction site. Something Different Inside - The pressure supplied is more than sufficient for average duty use. A slight tug on your air hose is enough to send it rolling.

found in CPLDC2540S's reviews: A- compressor except for the regulator - I've been searching for a portable compressor for a couple of months now and near the end came up with three to chose from: the Emglo 55155, a Hitachi dual stack and this PC. Other compressors did meet these, but what draw me was the oil lube system that permits you to use it on uneven surfaces. This should be the norm! Other good things are excellent build (USA), non-ball type draincock (ice can ruin a brass ball), pressure release valve (to lower the pressure before you open draincock that can shoot projectiles), caged, not too bad noise level about 83 dbA (noisy street), lower running 1.5max) to not trip the circuit breakers, filtered intake (not output though) for longer motor life, shrouded motor for airflow from fan and good manual. The regulator unit is actually the weak link here, made of plastic and from Taiwan. The only thing I added at the universal coupler end is a water/air filter. A great compressor - So far I'm really impressed with this compressor. The handle does make it fairly easy to transport, but it is still heavy so I recommend buying a second hose to reach the work instead of moving the compressor. The motor is quiet in relation to other compressors I've heard. The pressure gauges are easy to read and the pressure adjustment knob is simple to use. Great Little Compressor - This compressor packs a lot of power in a small package. The pressure controls are accurate which are very helpful in my situation.

found in EC12's reviews: Compressor great, regulator bad - This compressor is a great value. It has a quality oil lubricated motor and is competitively priced with "oil-less" compressors of similar size and capacity. It works great with my various small air tools (palm nailer, impact wrench, etc). My only complaint: After a few hours of light use, the regulator dial became very hard to turn, and eventually stopped working altogether. I replaced the regulator with an inexpensive AmFlo model purchased at Lowes, and am much happier with the new one -- easier to adjust, more precise, and more accurate. If Hitachi included a better regulator, they would have a 5 star product. great quality, reasonable price - The other item is the brass stem out of the upper tank to the regulator; it positions the regulator in a location which is very susceptible to be knocked off. The positives: I've used it for over a year now, building two houses (both framing and finish guns), with little or no maintenance, the oil lubed compressor is fast. Excellent Compressor - The compressor is quiet, powerful, and reliable so far. I have looked at quite a few compressors and 95% of them have something hanging out waiting to be sheared off if impacted. I think it would be fairly simple for them to tuck the regulator assembly between the tank and pump to avoid possible damage but few manufacturers do so I didn't take any stars away for that. Great price, great compressor. I modified my compressor by bolting a single gang plastic electrical box to the leg under the regulator. The compressor power cord is spliced inside the box to a recepticle and a 25 foot 12ga cord that provides power to the recepticle for accessory power tools or extension cords, etc. Get It. - The other reviews about the regulator being in a vulnerable position are true and you need to take some care with location on the job. Take care to read all the instructions before using the compressor. The compressor ships without oil in the compressor and in my haste to get started I nearly missed filling it with oil. Hitachi quaility and plenty of air. - This compressor has outlasted several other brands. The machine has run two finishing guns continuously for almost a year and hasn't needed anything more than an oil change The regulator is predictable, and adjusts as easily as other brands. We simply do not run out of air no matter how fast we are working with the Senco SFN40's.
While I have given this compressor a 5 star rating, there are some things for the engineers (and you!) to think about in the next model: 1. The way the regulator is mounted it is difficult to make a manifold for two hoses without hanging those pipes out there where they can get knocked off. This means you have to hold it out away from your body a bit more than the size of the compressor would promise.
These are relatively small gigs on a really great compressor. Tremendous product, good value - )
The regulator stem is in an exposed position where it could be damaged/broken off if struck hard enough or handled carelessly, and the unit is every bit as loud as I expected (invest in some good earplugs) but still, I am extremely pleased my decision to go with this unit. A good little workhorse - Puts out enough air to keep two framing nailguns running at full speed.
I find that I am using the big shop compressor much less - it's just so easy to plug in the handy little Hitachi for everything. As the Hitachi uses an odd-sized thread for their gauges you have to either replace them with another (relatively expensive at $17 or so and weak plastic ) Hitachi gauge or replace the regulator and add a new gauge (costs a little more but most replacement regulators are better made than the original costs maybe $21 with a better gauge). oil cap pops up?! - whenever I start the compressor the oil cap pops up and splashes the oil out. Probably a pressure is building in but why?. Disappointing - As a previous writer indicated, the gauges got stuck, the pressure release valve froze, it wouldn't start and turned out to be uneconomical to repair. A real turd - It now pumps up, and doesn't stop until the pressure safety valve blows, then the motor goes into some kind of cardiac arrest. Now I'm sure I'll be raped at the repair center as I spend >$100 to repair this $200 turd. Hitachi EC12 2-Horsepower AirCompressor - Overall a great compressor. I have taken it everywhere, on roofs, in fields, in basements, run it off a generator, used it for almost everything you could use a compressor for, and it keeps on going. Nailing (framing and finishing) , small paint jobs with a cup gun or pressure pot, air chisle, air ratchet, air wrench, you name it. I have to carry a propane heater on the truck to warm up the compressor so it will run. Happy, but could be happier - The compressor is still fairly new and seems to provide excellent power for framing guns, finishing nailers, and hoppers. However, I am not incredibly impressed with this compressors ability to start. I realize during the cold winter mornings (not too cold in the San Francisco bay area), that some compressors require an empty tank to kick over, but this is getting a little ridiculous. On a 45 degree morning I don't even try to kick over the tank before making sure it is decompressed completely, and during the middle of the day I still have to, on a not-so-rare occasion, pull the pressure release valve. I have seen on another review that a Smart Start inlet filter can be purchased to cure this problem, but it's annoying that you need to buy new parts to cure problems on a new compressor.
I guess having only one complaint for a power tool isn't too bad, but I'm sure there's a better compressor out there.

found in C3151's reviews: Good, But..... - The only complaint is that the outlet pressureregulator is cheap. Rattle can construction - This aircompressor will rattle out most of its bolts within a year. The Pressureregulator will fail in about a year as well, be prepared to spend a lot of maintenance money keeping this piece running. Porter-Cable C3151 - I asked tech support if this could just need to have the regulator adjusted - they said no; take it to a repair center. Left at repair center; after repair, informed they 'adjusted the regulator. Also doesn't appear to put out the volume of air advertised. Used it today for the first time - I use an air hammer to break out the old windows and they require a lot of air. This compressor worked well with some catch up time but hey, it's only a 4 1/2 gallon tank. Cord wrap is fairly useless, handle makes it portable, regulator worked, switch and air release are protected. Fine for finish nailers - This compressor is LOUD and ear protection should be worn if you work near it. The problem lies in the fact that the unit cycles at 115 psi which is lower than the hose pressure needed for rapid nailing. Dependable and... dependable - I've been using this compressor for about 3 months now. Nailing, stapling, and air cleaning. The pressure, for the most part, maintains its equillibrium. What I don't particularly care for about the unit is the airflow adjustment valve. and I don't trust it for the compressor's duraction.
05 update: I noticed one reviewer griped about this tank's compressor turning on frequently while using an air wratchet or something. that's an unfair assessment. Using such tools would cause the same reaction on any tank with the same air gallon capacity. From a homeowner - This is a great compressor. The manual says 15 Amps, but its more like a hair above that. The copper one that pumps the air into the reservoir. The cut-off pressure is not adjustable. (I definitely wouldn't want to buy a second compressor for that either. Aside from those minor inconveniences (hence the 4-stars), this is a very plug-and-playable compressor for the DIY homeowner. I made the mistake of buying one of the pancake style compressors and found it a little weak for doing the basement framing.
