An air compressor isn't one of those must-have tools for the homeowner—-that is, until you've used one. The HL5501 has plenty of power for a stapler or nailer; imagine how quickly a chair rail could go up. Because it's a smaller unit, its air delivery is lower, so make sure you check the air requirements of the tools you intend to use it with.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste

From the Manufacturer
Ideal for inflating balls and tires, nailing fences, stapling protective wrap, and more, this 8-gallon air compressor offers a whole new world of around-the-house convenience. A handle and wheels make this compressor highly portable for doing jobs in the basement, on the roof, and in the yard. You'll get those occasional home repair jobs done more quickly and with less expensive with this Campbell Hausfeld compressor and air tools.

Compared to electric power tools, Campbell Hausfeld air tools save you both time and money. The initial cost of an air tool is significantly lower than its electrically powered counterpart, and the average life is longer. Air tools also deliver more torque and higher revolutions-per-minute than electric tools, helping you complete your jobs more quickly and effectively.

Product Description
8 Gallon, 15A Cast Iron Air Compressor, Oil Lube Pump With 2.
found in HL5501's reviews:
Sturdy, portable, cheap oil-lubricated compressor... But noisy! - Pros: Affordable, portable, sturdy, very heavy-duty power cord,
oil-lubed dependability.

Let me start by saying that I can't live without an air compressor. Those of you who don't have one have no idea how much you'll use it and what an integral part of any household project or repair it will become when you finally have one. That being said, let me explain why I bought this particular compressor and what I think about it thus far.

Until recently, I had an 8-gallon oil-free compressor that was handed down to me from my dad after I bought him a large stationary garage unit about 6 years ago. This thing lasted about 13 years with very regular use with a few repairs over the years. This is absolutely unheard of with an oil-free compressor. In order to replace the blue tarp roof provided by FEMA with some actual shingles, I will need a compressor to power my roofing and framing nailers. Portability and reliability are important factors in order to assist with the reconstruction efforts of the community once the repairs to my home are complete. This is why I decided on an oil-lubricated compressor. Although I had great success with the aforementioned oil-free compressor, I do understand that this was more the exception than the rule. It is hard to find an oil-lubed compressor that is both portable and affordable., making them very difficult to get in and out of your truck/car by yourself, let alone getting them up a flight of stairs. This compressor does not come with oil, even though the instruction manual says "only use the oil that was shipped with the compressor." The other thing that you will run into is that it does not come with a coupler to connect an air hose to. Although this is very common for air tools not to come with the required fittings to connect it to a hose, there is one difference here. I have never seen a quick-disconnect air hose connector (the hose end that has the sleeve to release the connection) with male threads on it. (a brass pipe nipple for you plumbers out there)

Use:
The Campbell Hausfeld HL5501 overall seems to be a very good compressor. If you are looking into this compressor because of the reduced noise level that oil-lubed compressors are known for, then you will be disappointed. This compressor is every bit as loud as any comparable oil-free unit.

Conclusion:
I would recommend this compressor to the handy home user that wants the reliability and longevity of an oil-lube compressor, but doesn't want to spend a lot of money. I would not recommend this compressor if the noise level is a big issue, but be prepared to spend a lot more money for a belt-driven unit.

    found in C3551's reviews:
Everything it promises and more.......... - All I can say is there are a LOT of portable air compressors out there and a lot of them are junk. I did not use the oil that came with compressor though, I decided to run a fully synthetic oil (make sure it is a compressor oil) Ingersoll Rand makes a very high quailty oil for this compressor. Everything is where it should be on this compressor: knobs, gauges, ect. The only thing I would tell someone interested in this compressor is don't be fooled by Porter Cables "oil-free" version of this compressor, I have done a lot of comparision shopping not only is the oil free version much noiser but you will be servicing it much more often than the oil-lube pump. Lowe's sells the "oil-free" version of this compressor for 299.00!!!!!!!! You can purchase this compressor, tax free and shipped free and it will be shipped right to your front door! What a deal! Good job Amazon!.
I bought the Porter-Cable C3551 . . . AND I'M STILL GLAD!!! - I shopped long and hard for a well built portable compressor that was durable and just plain practical. This is a fantastic compressor.
The Porter-Cable C3551 is a very nice compressor - I have a few compressors already - but they are too big and bulky to move around and my previous smaller 10 gallon compressor is getting a bit rough around the edges. 10 years old for a oil-less compressor is a pretty good.

With that said I wanted a new smaller compressor to aid in the remodel work I'm doing.

Upon receiving the compressor I gave it a quick once over.

The performance of the compressor is very good. It fills quick, cycles infrequently, and is fairly quiet.

I think this is one of the best small compressors out there. If you need a nice portable compressor - look no further. For me it came down to the DEWALT D55155 or this compressor.

broken twice - Worse than that is after fixing it I looked online to write this review and it is $25 cheaper.
Quiet, Solid, Well Made - After all the reviews that complained about shipping damage, I was pleased when mine arrived in perfect condition. I wanted a portable compressor for using my nail guns at old houses, and was ready to replace my antique mastodon shop compressor. I was thinking I may have to buy two compressors, most portable units were too loud for the shop. A few weeks ago I bought a Ridgid brand "oil-free" compressor at Home Depot but it was so loud that I couldn't use it indoors, even covered with a chunk of old carpet. It had good air flow. Portable.3 CFM is higher than many of the 75-pound twin stack compressors I saw. To reduce cycling in the shop, I attached my 5-gallon air tank (the kind you use for putting air in a flat tire) to the tank side of the regulator with a T and snap coupler.like don't use the compressor in the bathtub. It's a large, high quality compressor mounted on a small, portable tank. You'll get really spoiled if you're used to a noisy oil-less compressor.
makita mac700 2hp air compressor - i purchased this compressor about a year ago from amazon.im a contractor and need a good durable compressor that i can use everyday.way to fragil to be considered portable.
Makita MAC700 -nice little compressor - I almost didn't order this compressor after reading all the reviews about shipping damage, but mine arrived in perfect shape.

My old pancake compressor finally died. It is resonably portable and very very quiet for a compressor.

As noted in other reviews, it is a little top heavy and can fall over if just put in the back of your truck.

Large automotive style industrial air filter for increased air intake and greater efficiency.
    found in MAC2400's reviews:
Great portable compressor! - I have used this compressor for about 2 months with absolutely no problem. This is the quietest compressor I have owned and sure is a pleasure to not hear the noise, especially in a small room. I have used the compressor to run a framing nailer, air drill, and impact wrench with no problems. With the air drill it took a couple times letting the air compressor recharge the tanks before I could get full power out of the drill. This is a great air compressor for anyone wanting a quite portable unit! .
Great Compressor - I am just a homeowner who has a hobby of woodworking, and I havent used this compressor very much so far, but it has been great when I have used it.and very portable.I would recommend this compressor to everyone.
HEAVY = TOUGH - Great compressor i replaced my PC Pancake with this fine product and i know there is a differance in the size and weight, but i was alittle shocked how heavy it was. that being said it is still very portable - i just bought more hose so i don't have to move it as much.
The other Reviews are Correct, this is a great compressor - I do not want to repeat what all the other reviews have said. This is a quality compressor. In this day and age of plastic junk, I am surprised some of the reviews complained about wieght.

The compressor is just as quiet as others report.

Why did I get this compressor? In sum, (1) I wanted a GOOD quality tool that was not Chineese junk, (2) I wanted at least 4 cfm for tools and (2) I did not want to spend a fortune. There seems to be several classes or levels of compressor in the lower price range. Unless you are getting a specialized mini-compressor just for a small brad gun, the $125-175 compressors are mostly junk: loud and rough. This Makita is in the next step up, with compressors in the $225 to 325 range. Most of this second tier are either made for just for job sites or are just bigger cheaply made compressors. The Dewalt is an excellent compressor, but you cannot use it next to you in an exclosed shop -- its too loud. It is a very well made little compressor.

The compressor seems to live up to its specs. When I went to use a Snap-On 7200 3/8" air ratchet, the performance was just adequate.

I have not owned a compressor is many years. As an advanced and serious home workshop dude, this review is not written for the pros. But for a serious homeowner that appreciates quality tools and needs a general purpose compressor, I believe I found the perfect compressor.

Decent compressor if you can get one without damage - I researched portable compressors for months before deciding on the MAC2400. Even with weight I was quite pleased with the compressor but my buying experience was much less.
My first compressor from Amazon had a broken plastic motor cover which wasn't caused by shipping damage.
I sent it back and Amazon had a replacement back to me in 3-4 days, Quick!, but that compressor also was damaged. The air cleaner housing was thrown on top of the compressor and beat up the control panel and one gauge from bouncing around. I was told to contact Amazon and after a week of waiting on Amazon, I was told that they could not send part (it would void warranty if replaced) and they were not going to send a replacement compressor. I packaged up the second compressor and sent back. I wasn't going to order another brand compressor from Amazon as I didn't want the hassle if damaged again. looking at Ridgid as I really didn't want a Dewalt or the Porter Cable pancake compressor which they carried. I bought a Ridgid model with a higher cfm rating, larger air tanks, wheels, handle and it came out of box without a scratch. After moving it around the house and up the stairs, I don't know how long I would have enjoyed carrying the MAC2400 or any other brand compressor that weighs 70-80lbs.

Overall the MAC2400 looked and sounded like a good compressor for the short time I had it but makes me wonder how well they are built, with so many problems between packaging and broken parts inside cartons not caused by shipping damage on the Mac700's and a few of these. If you are not in a hurry for a compressor and/or don't care about cosmetic condtion out of the box (if damaged) then Amazon is the place to buy with their best price.

Senco brad nailer/compressor combo - It pressurizes relatively quietly and is beautifully portable.
This contractor is very pleased... with the compressor - I own several portable compressors, but hate to lug them around. The little compressor is lightweight and perfect for small jobs like these. On bigger jobs I still use one of my heavy duty compressors. So, that may be the problem some of the other reviewers are having.

Porter-Cable’s solved the compressor mobility problem on two levels with this tool. First, and most impressively, it’s got a two-port removable console for remote air regulation and higher air pressure right where you’re working. And the compressor itself has wheels and an extension handle, making life easier on you.

Let’s face it: This compressor’s big, heavy and loud, with a max psi of 150. You can run three or four guns at once off it with a splitter and have no air supply problems whatsoever.5 gallon, oil-free contractor style compressor is packed with features. The high-flow air regulator and two-port removable console are winning combinations for contractors. Having the ability to remove the console gives the user the opportunity to remote air regulation and gain higher air pressure closer to the job site. Air delivery at 40 PSI: 7.

Job Boss Compressor Review - This compressor has delivered in all of the areas I expected. It is very portable and easy to use.
Porter-Cable C3151 - Ordered as a compact, easily portable unit, which it is.
I asked tech support if this could just need to have the regulator adjusted - they said no; take it to a repair center.
Left at repair center; after repair, informed they 'adjusted the regulator.
Also doesn't appear to put out the volume of air advertised.

Used it today for the first time - I use an air hammer to break out the old windows and they require a lot of air. This compressor worked well with some catch up time but hey, it's only a 4 1/2 gallon tank. Cord wrap is fairly useless, handle makes it portable, regulator worked, switch and air release are protected.
