good - I have worked with this compressor for about a week and before that I was using a 30 gallon 220Volt rig that I have had for years. So,it is light and compact, irratingly noisy when filling but very portable.I like the convenience and the oil-less feature because I do a lot of trim work, like after new homes are sheetrocked,I will hang cabinets, interior doors as well as stairskirts, base, door casing and misc other trim details to complete the home.
Disappointing and noisy - Bought this to replace an old pancake compressor. I used this on one job and am replacing with a Dewalt twin stack. As I have many Bostitch Nailers I was very disappointed with this compressor, the only good thing I can say is that it was fairly inexpensive.

2.5 HP, 4.3-gallon oil-lube compressor

found in CPLDC2541S's description: From the Manufacturer
Porter-Cable is proud to introduce our first oil-lube compressor. When we first put our engineers on the task of designing an oil-lube compressor we gave them one priority; it could not have the same imported pump as all the other major brands have. Just as in a car, the lubrication system in the pump is the most vital part in a compressor. Now, take this revolutionary pump engineered to last over 3,000 hours of use and add in the "High Pressure Technology" and you have compressor that will run at 150 pounds per square inch (PSI).5 horsepower induction motor is safely shrouded and acts as a wind tunnel providing more than enough air to cool the unit down even under the most strenuous conditions.3 HP Running
  • Patented oil lubrication system allows pump to be operated on an uneven surface
  • Universal, High-FloSM, push-to-connect coupler in air outlet
  • 150 PSI tank pressure, equivalent to a 7.3 gallon tank at 125 PSI, for 71% more stored work capacity
  • 83 Dba
  • Higher 120 PSI cut-in pressure assures nails will be completely driven in before pump cycles on
  • Two pole, 3,450 RPM capacitor start induction motor for maximum air delivery
  • High-FloSM air regulator for more work at higher pressure (125 PSI start and 150 PSI stop pressure switch)
  • Low 12 Amp motor draw prevents accidental tripping of circuit breakers
  • 4 gallon storage capacity air tank supports heavy usage of stapler, brad, finish, roofing and framing nailer
  • Heavy duty cast iron cylinder construction and large 8 oz. oil capacity to assure long life
  • Standard Equipment: Compressor, ASME safety valve, air regulator and gauges, 1/4" quick coupler, oil, and operating manual

    SPECIFICATIONS

    • Lubrication: Oil Lube
    • Gauges: 2
    • Quick Couple: 1/4" NPT
    • Weight (Lbs. PSI: 150
    • SCFM Air Delivery @40 PSI: 5.4
    • SCFM Air Delivery @90 PSI: 4.

Takes to much power and is too loud (also flimsy switch) - This compressor absolutely will NOT run on 15 amps. This makes this compressor almost usless for me because I can never find anywhere to plug it in. I was just working in a basement at the same time as a guy that had a Hitachi compressor and his was less than HALF as loud.
The guy helping me tripped over the air hose and it caught on the little shutoff lever. Now my compressor won't even shut off. I'm seriously thinking about just leaving this for the garbage man and buying the DeWalt Emglo compressor.
I ended up buying a CastAir air compressor. CastAir is not a commercial brand, but the factory where they are made is about 2 miles from my house in Chaska, MN. These compressors were only recently made available to non-commercial applications (previously they specialized in huge compressors used in body shops, etc. It's quiet, powerful, and SOLID as a ROCK!!! A REAL contractor grade compressor for the same amount as I paid for this PC. I have NO relationship or incentive to recommend CastAir other than I'm a very satisfied customer. Check them out if you want a REALLY great compressor.

It's a worker - I bought this compressor a few days ago for my small remodeling company.

I am currently growing and needed a larger compressor for the job site, as all I was using was a pancake compressor from porter cable, and it had a hard time keeping up with the heavier demands I was putting on it.

I had looked at alot of compressors from emglo (dewalt) and others. I also looked at the specifications as I wanted a compresor that would have fast recovery, and high air presure for driving nails in older existing framing. The compressor had no assembly reqired, and was easy to remove from the box. This compressor is an animal. The recovery is the fastest I have seen on any compressor out there. It is a litle loud, But we fixed that by moving the compressor to another room, and removing the regualtor panel and putting it into the work area. I wasn't sure I would use this feature, but it is great, as you have your air supply and regulator right where you are working. ( It's not light )

This compressor by far exceeds what I expected it to do.

Oil ? - I have had this compressor for a couple of years now, never had a problem with it so far. I would say it's not exactly the lightest portable compressor out there, and most of the time I wish it had wheels. I have another larger more stationary compressor that is a different brand that gets used more out in the main shop. There are a few minor flaws that could be fixed relatively easily with this compressor. The air filter sticks out of the cage a little too far, looks like it's prone to bumps. And last but not least, the control panel, nice easy access and readability, and I like the dual air outlets, but they stick out of the roll cage after you install a pair of female couplers.

Depth-of-drive adjustment to match nail depth to the application
Quick release nosepiece for easy clearing of jams

    found in CFFN250A's reviews:
PORTER CABLE NAILED THIS ONE - LOVE THIS COMBO! ITS VERY PORTABLE, HAS EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO TAKE IT OUT OF THE BOX AND FIRE IT UP. THE GUN HAS NEVER JAMMED, IT IS VERY EASY TO CONTROL THE DEPTH OF THE NAIL EITHER FROM THE ADJUSTMENT ON THE GUN OR THE REGULATOR ON THE COMPRESSOR. THE COMPRESSOR ALWAYS HAS SUFFICIENT AIR. IF THIS BOTHERS YOU GET A LONGER AIR HOSE AND KEEP THE UNIT OUTSIDE. THIS COMPRESSOR SHOULD FIRE A FRAMING NAILER AS WELL, BUT IT WILL RUN MORE OFTEN.
Good buy not very portable with NO handle. - Both the compressor and the nailer work at least as well as advertised. The only place to grab is the plastic cover over the compressor pump, and that appears never to have been intended for use as a handle.
Best Tool I Own Hands Down! - I plan on replacing all of the crown molding utilizing my Porter Cable Finish Nailer and Pancake Compressor combo and my DeWalt 12" Combo miter Saw.
    2-1/2" 16 Gauge Finish Nailer/Compressor Combo Pack | Porter-Cable CFFN250S

Oil-free compressor produces 3.7 scfm at 40 psi and 2.7 scfm at 90 psi
Nailer features cushion grip, depth of drive, piston catch, quick-release nosepiece, and directional exhaust
Professional nailer shoots 3/4" to 2-1/2" 16 gauge finish nails

    found in CFFN250S's reviews:
Great Value - The compressor is light enough to move easily, but stays in place unless the floor has some kind of gloss finish. The DeWalt guns are nicer (more substantial feeling and heavier guage nails), but a DeWalt 15g costs as much as the whole PC kit.
The little Engine that could. -

Do you want a small, safe, easy to use, out of the box compressor / finisher kit. Noisy? Stick the compressor outside and use the 25 foot cord to maneuver around. Right up there with the table saw and the 12 inch Dewalt miter saw .
A nice tidy package! - I guess to keep the price low, Porter-Cable outfitted this kit with their 135 psi pancake compressor, rather than their 150 psi compressor which is sold with their 18 gage brad nailer kit.

    The positives of the kit are;

    1) The 17 piece accessory kit with the pistol grip blower,
    2) The gun has a balanced and quality feel,
    3) Easy to load gun,
    4) Easy to clear jammed nails,
    5) Shorter and more streamlined design of gun,
    6) Enough power to countersink a 2-1/2" nail into red oak,
    7) Portable and reasonably light-weight compressor,
    8) Very good sight line of nailing surface,
    9) Value purchase.

    The negatives of this kit are;

    1) Noisy compressor,
    2) Gun does not warn user when it runs out of nails,
    3) Should have provided 2-1/2" nails, rather than the 2" nails,
    4) Compressor's auto on/off lever can dislodge from the switch assembly when the lever is pushed/pulled at the wrong angle,
    5) Must order the free black coloured trigger separately,
    6) The gun will at the odd time spall the MDF moulding surface at the nail's point of entry (which means more caulking).

Great Little Air Squeezer!!! - This little Porter Cable compressor is all (and more) that I expected it to be. The output should be more than adequate for my needs to run an air ratchet, blow nozzle, hand sandblaster and pressurize a small auxilliary portable tank.
A good compressor to get you started. - I shopped extensively for a light duty compressor based on the following criteria: price, weight, and flow rating.this model comes in at about the mid-range of the portables. It features the same motor and compressor as the PC 3HP twin stack model but is $40 cheaper and about 10 pounds lighter.

Other than that what can I say - it pumps air. It is fairly loud, but I haven't listened to many other models to make an educated comparison. I have used it quite a bit for high air flow operations, such as blowing off dust / debris and even running an air chisel to bust up concrete. It often runs full time for 5-10 minutes and is able to keep up with air demand. If you are going to be regularly moving the compressor around, spend the extra. I actually ran a compressed air line out to my garage, so the compressor can stay put in the basement and avoid potential damage from moving it.

    *** 4-year update ***

I have owned this compressor for 4+ years now and am still completely satisfied. I used a hand held, air chisel to break up the mortar joints. The compressor was operating at 100% duty cycle for 10-15 minutes at a stretch, but couldn't quite keep up with continuous use of the air chisel. As an last ditch experiment, I bought a 10 gal portable air storage tank, some extra quick disconnect fittings and rigged up a reserve tank in parallel with the 4 gallon PC tank. (yes, I am an engineer) My thinking was that I would run the crap out of my little PC and if it bit the dust, that was my excuse to buy a new compressor. I am amazed to say the PC compressor ran flawlessly for the entire chimney demo and still works fine today.

Very good - with provisos - Just received my M990 compressor after my local small engine repair shop recommended it over others. Plenty of power, great pressure and set up for two air hoses right out of the box. provided excellent assistance, bottom line however is that it needed to go to the local repair shop for warranty work. Also, the unit is about at the limit of what one would reasonably call portable.

This Portable Compressor is Rugged and Well Built ! - Surprised and impressed! I looked at Home Depot and Lowes and decided to order this air compressor to save the Tax and the trouble of bring it home.

Looking at the other brands of portable compressors I really like how well this one is built.
Great General Purpose Portable Compressor - I bought this compressor to run nail guns, air sand and spray paint. It is also handy to limit the pressure to safe levels for your various air tools. Shut it off, close the valve and turn it back on; you're ready for action! The unit really is portable, especially with the well balanced carry handle protruding from the top. It is not as loud as large upright compressors, but it does make a fair amount of noise, although not as much as I expected. I use it with a Souix air sander and it does run longer when I am working. If you take on a tractor trailer, get a bigger compressor.
Darn Good Little Compressor - Short and sweet - this compressor delivers on its promises - it is easy to use, easy to break-in, easy to maintain, and you can't beat the duel air hose inlets. I have found both of the built in pressure gauges to be accurate, and the oil-free motor is quieter than other compressors I have used (although it still makes a good bit of noise). To me, that's portable - I can understand how that would not be the case with everyone, but my experience leads me to believe that this compressor has a very good weight-to-horsepower-to-air storage capacity ratio.
Great little air compressor - This air compressor is great! This unit is fairly quiet, compact, light enough to be toted around if needed, no oil needed and very powerful. This unit replaced a 12 year old 15 gallons, 2 hp, craftsman rolling air compressor and all I can say is that I wish I purchased this unit sooner. I like the portable size too, it doesn't take up too much room. When comparing the 2 units the Porter Cable is definitely stronger, the only difference being that when you are running any tools the compressor is running almost non stop compared to a unit with a larger tank that does not have to refill as fast. I consider this a plus though, because I always drain the tank after each use and it does not take as long to release all the air. At this price range there are many choices out there for anyone looking for a compact air compressor but when you start to compare CFM ratings @ 90 PSI this one has the highest ratings.
Better than the pancake model - I've used the smaller Porter-Cable pancake compressor for about 2 years. The only thing I don't think is an improvement is the knob for adjusting air pressure.

This time I installed the compressor with the air hose reel from Amazon mounted right beside it on the floor. If you get the reel, you'll probably need to make a trip to the local hardware store for an interconnecting piece to connect the reel to the compressor. I now use the pancake style as the portable one (I agree, this one's too heavy).
