found in MAC2400's description:From the Manufacturer
The new MAC2400 - Twin Stack aircompressor by Makita is blowing away the competition.3 amps to operate, a lower 1720 RPM rating and a heavy duty Intake Air Filter system like no other, its easy to see how this unit will out last and outperform everyone else. High quality, maximum performance - just what you expect from Makita. Large automotive style industrial air filter for increased air intake and greater efficiency.
found in MAC2400's reviews: The other Reviews are Correct, this is a great compressor - This is a qualitycompressor. The weight comes from steel, not plastic parts.
The compressor is just as quiet as others report.
Why did I get this compressor? In sum, (1) I wanted a GOOD quality tool that was not Chineese junk, (2) I wanted at least 4 cfm for tools and (2) I did not want to spend a fortune. There seems to be several classes or levels of compressor in the lower price range. Unless you are getting a specialized mini-compressor just for a small brad gun, the $125-175 compressors are mostly junk: loud and rough. This Makita is in the next step up, with compressors in the $225 to 325 range. Most of this second tier are either made for just for job sites or are just bigger cheaply made compressors. The Dewalt is an excellent compressor, but you cannot use it next to you in an exclosed shop -- its too loud.
So, I wanted a quality tool and one that could live in the shop next to me. It is a very well made little compressor.
The compressor seems to live up to its specs. When I went to use a Snap-On 7200 3/8" air ratchet, the performance was just adequate.
I have not owned a compressor is many years. I looked long and hard for the best of all worlds: quality, size, price, and cfm. But for a serious homeowner that appreciates quality tools and needs a general purpose compressor, I believe I found the perfect compressor.
Lastly, no shop came close to Amazon on total price, in large part due to the free shipping. I'll let you know when I get a chance to use it! - After reading 45 reviews, most of which described the unit arriving damaged in one way or another, it would have been wise on my part to find a source for this compressor where I could pick it up. Great Compressor - After doing alot of research I settled on this Makita- I have to say the reviews are right- its quiet, and yes heavy, but you can feel and hear the quality in this machine. I don't intend on moving it around much, I was concerned more with noise and build quality, both of which are superb on this model. I had bought a craftsman compressor and returned it because it was a piece of junk, and came out of the box dirty and didn't work- I'm guessing it was a refurb. Decent compressor if you can get one without damage - I researched portable compressors for months before deciding on the MAC2400. Even with weight I was quite pleased with the compressor but my buying experience was much less. My first compressor from Amazon had a broken plastic motor cover which wasn't caused by shipping damage. I sent it back and Amazon had a replacement back to me in 3-4 days, Quick!, but that compressor also was damaged. The air cleaner housing was thrown on top of the compressor and beat up the control panel and one gauge from bouncing around. I was told to contact Amazon and after a week of waiting on Amazon, I was told that they could not send part (it would void warranty if replaced) and they were not going to send a replacement compressor. I packaged up the second compressor and sent back. I wasn't going to order another brand compressor from Amazon as I didn't want the hassle if damaged again. looking at Ridgid as I really didn't want a Dewalt or the Porter Cable pancake compressor which they carried. I bought a Ridgid model with a higher cfm rating, larger air tanks, wheels, handle and it came out of box without a scratch. A very nice quality built unit, a couple decibels louder but less vibration than the Makita MAC2400. After moving it around the house and up the stairs, I don't know how long I would have enjoyed carrying the MAC2400 or any other brand compressor that weighs 70-80lbs.
Overall the MAC2400 looked and sounded like a good compressor for the short time I had it but makes me wonder how well they are built, with so many problems between packaging and broken parts inside cartons not caused by shipping damage on the Mac700's and a few of these. If you are not in a hurry for a compressor and/or don't care about cosmetic condtion out of the box (if damaged) then Amazon is the place to buy with their best price. I you need one right away and are particular about quality, I would seriously look elsewhere to purchase. Great luggable compressor - I really like this compressor. I bought it mainly because many reviewers claimed it was quiet and I wanted a compressor that could be moved to the work area vs. stringing hose from my other compressor in the garage. This compressor is top-notch as far as quality, fit and finish, and operation go. The air cleaner was loose in the package (Makita, you really need to put some tape or something on that!) but there was no damage or marks on the compressor. For those concerned about being made in Taiwan, I have found lately that the overall quality of my Taiwanese made tools is up to par and in cases surpasses the quality of my tools made in the USA.
Con's ~ A little heavier than some other compressors of this capacity, but that is because of the extra armor. ~ Air cleaner is in a slighly precarious spot. Hey, that sounds like a pro!
Overall, if you are looking for a great qualitycompressor with decent portability, definitely consider this one!. A very good compressor - It is very quiet, of quality construction, and quite powerful. Perfect compressor - quiet & powerful - I needed a compressor to put up a fence, install mouldings and refinish my basement. Well, it's a compressor and they ARE heavy. Especially a high-qualitycompressor like this one.
Additional comments:
The finned discharge tubing on this thing is fantastic - if you've never had your hand seared like a steak after touching discharge tubing on a compressor, you haven't truly felt pain.
The tanks fill quickly enough, and the gauges are really nice quality. I can use the compressor in my basement shop and can barely hear it running on the main level.
If you're looking for a high-quality, oil-lube (don't know why anyone would go for a non-oil unit) compressor that will last for years, look no further. Quitest aircompressor I've ever had! - If you need an aircompressor to use indoors, this is it. Looks and runs like a quality product. Makita MAC2400 2.5 HP TwinStack AirCompressor - Aircompressor so quiet to operate , I used everyday. Price, quality, service and delivery are excellent. Excellent AirCompressor - I had previously made the LOUD mistake of getting a "maintenance-free" aircompressor. Although not silent, this aircompressor is MUCH more tolerable. This compressor is also of good quality and very sturdy (heavy) construction. Compressor great, but has a couple of issues - This is a great compressor and is highly recommended. However, you need to be mindful that this compressor is _very_ heavy. It _is_ quiet, as far as compressors go. It does a particularly poor job of describing how to assemble some of the parts. Perhaps Makita will work on making a manual that matches the quality of the compressor. Minnesota Charlie - The compressor arrived in good condition, no damage during shipping. I used it with several air tools like ratchet, impact wrench, stapler, finish nailer, and framing nailer. The air cleaner seems loose and doesn't fit as snugly as it should to the motor. One small problem, it is very heavy to move around but that is a sign of quality. A well made , quiet compressor. - I have been using this compressor trimming houses for the last three weeks and I am well pleased with it's performance. I usually run two to three 15 gauge trim guns at a time and this compressor is more than adequate for my needs. The main reason I purchased this compressor over several other brands was the ability to run it off of a 100' 10 gauge extension cord without tripping the breaker, it only draws 12. The added bonus is just how quiet it is, it's way quieter than any other compressor I have used. I DO NOT recommend buying an oil free compressor , I have used several, and just haven't got the life out of them like an oil lube. This is an industrial quality tool that I hope, with proper maintenance, to get several years of service from. Very pleased - This is my first aircompressor, and I just received it yesterday so can't vouch for long-term quality, but I just wanted folks to know that it has ZERO damage. The air filter was packaged in a heavy plastic baggie along with the oil and manual. The thin paper manual has a few indentations from the wingnut on the air filter pressing into it, but the compressor unit itself is showroom clean.

found in CFFN250NR's reviews: Quality control issue - The regulator was clearly defective it blew air through the housing. The unit was reconditioned in Mexico and I have read that there are real quality control issues in their factories. As far as I am concerned I won't touch another reconditioned tool that is reconditioned in Mexico, until I hear that they are bringing their quality standards up. I have read extensively about Maytag quality issues since they moved their factory from Iowa to Mexico!! The articles I read spoke of the fact that the factories in Mexico rely on day labor for sometimes critical manufacturing roles and turnover is way over 100%.

found in PC0947's reviews: compressor try's hard but comes up a bit short - Of course it was the compressor which broke, the part with the 90 day warranty. Senco is a good company, but I think this little compressor is not quite up to the quality of their other products. In my case it was the 1/4" copper tubing which brings the air to the tank that failed. I have fixed it with some liquid steel, since I'm on a job with it, I'm hoping the repair lasts till I have time to replace to tubing. I have used this to build two large bookcase and cabinet projects so far, and in doing so I have learned the compressors limitations. I bought this combo for the light weight of the compressor, so I guess there must be some compromises. This won't take the place of more powerful compressors, but it is great for carrying to and from a job. I'm not sure I would recommend this product, the 90 day warranty on the compressor is a big negative. Easy, Light - And I don't have to lug around a giant compressor. The more convenient it is, the more you'll use it! It also has a quality feel to it. Woodworker Hobby or Trim Tool - The nailer is a quality tool that sells for $120 everywhere so that makes the compressor only $75. I had a $15 coupon so the compressor was only $60 for me. The compressor is so light that it is no problem carrying it. I will get an air blower tip for it; so far I'm satisfied.

This Porter-Cable 2-horsepower, 6-gallon pancake compressor transports easily but has plenty of capacity and power--enough to support heavy use of brad and finish nailers and moderate use of framing nailers. found in CPFAC2600P's reviews: What you see is Not what you Get! - )part# D20668. Once pneumatic, you never go back - The Porter-Cable 2HP 6-gallon pancake compressor is a reasonably powerful and reasonably portable aircompressor. I only recently purchased one but I am already sold on pneumatic tools, which the PC 6-gallon compressor operates surprisingly well. Although many pneumatic tools, such as air hammers, drills, and sanders, consume quite a bit of air (generally in the neighborhood of 5 CFM at 90 PSI), I have found that my PC compressor does just fine with its modest 2. My one complaint is that the motor and compressor are a bit louder than I expected. Then again, the noise of the compressor is hardly noticeable above the din of an air hammer, so I'm not sure it really matters.
If you enjoy using power tools and you have not yet experienced the pleasures of pneumatic gizmos, you should consider purchasing a small but serious compressor like the PC 2HP 6-gallon pancake. It's truly amazing how versatile compressed air is; basically any tool that runs on electricity also comes in a pneumatic version (well, except for arc welders). And, in my admittedly novice opinion, the pneumatic versions have many advantages; they are more durable (with surprisingly few moving parts), often cheaper, and usually more powerful than their electric counterparts. It makes so much sense to have all your tools share one powerful motor instead of replicating motors endlessly; that is, if you can part with your cordless tools.
But be warned! If you take the plunge into pneumatic tools, there is an endless stream of items you will find yourself purchasing: air tool lubricants and cleaning kits, in-line oilers, air hoses and gauges, quick connectors, air filters, oil-water separators, Teflon tape, universal air hose joints, air manifolds, blowguns with assorted nozzles, etc.)
One odd thing I've noticed is that the PC 6-gallon compressor is virtually identical to the Craftsman 6-gallon compressor, right down to the paint job.

At just a foot high and less than two feet wide out of the carton, this compressor was quite a bit smaller than we expected, so to be fair, we quickly lowered our expectations. The joke was on us, though, because this little powerhouse just doesnt quit, and we learned that you cant judge a compressor by its size. Emglos half-century in the compressor business is evident in this model, and with a couple of small exceptions (well get into that in a minute), we dont think anyone could make a finer piece of air power.
In the performance department, we have to say this machine blew us away, moving 4. Now, this may be a plus or a minus in your book, but we liked the fact that the compressor is factory set to power on at 100 psi an+d shut off at 120 psi, and the cycle time was under 15 seconds.) It has air aplenty for two nailers at once, and with that fast recovery, the job will get done in no time. What you do want to watch out for, though, is the proximity of the reset switch to parts that get searingly hot while in use.
In balance, this is one of the best compressors weve seen for the size, power, ruggedness and incredible portability it offers. Heres to a great pairing of two great toolmakers.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste

found in D55155's reviews: Major quality control and service issues - I am a contractor and have had this compressor for three years. This is the worst compressor I have ever owned. I should have just replaced the compressor for the headache it's been. If you want a professional quality machine try the Thomas T-2820. MOTION PICTURE IA - The only thing I can say is EMGLO! I have been using Emglo compressors for over 15 years years now in the Motion Picture Industry and on the outside and I never would settle for less. I must say I prejudged and thought well there goes the dependability and quality of Emglo's Compressors. A nice small compressor - I bought this aircompressor to do light construction work. I have to say that I was a little skeptical at first about using a small compressor for roofing or framing nailers but I was satisfied after the first time I used it. This compressor has impressed me more than most of my other tools. I have ran the compressor off of 100 foot 12 gauge cord and haven't noticed any problems at all. I have a gas powered Emglo compressor and the quality is outstanding. Other than that it has been a really great compressor and I would recommend this compressor over any other in its class. It may cost a little more but you won't have to replace it like the other compressors. Major quality control problems... - Naturally when it came time to get a new compressor, I decided to go for Dewalt as well.
Once the package arrived, the air filter was broken and the motor/compressor was not operating. To my surprise the second unit came with a broken air filter which completely boggles my mind as it is in a protected area and I can't see how this could be damaged during shipping. If it was the air filter only, I would have kept it, but the frame on this unit was completely twisted and the face place where the gages are on was completely warped out of shape.
I think I have had it with getting a Dewalt compressor. NOT for everyone !! - Be realistic and really think about your needs in a compressor - because this one is meant for low-volume work.
Factory set pressure valve set to kick on compressor at 100psi and turn off at 120psi - which means that any fair amount of use will cause this sucker to go on-off-on-off-on-off almost constantly!
Bottom Line: DO NOT get this if you need a generous supply of air (for blow nozzles, production cabinetry, house framing, paint sprayers, etc.)
Go ahead and get one if you need a portable, professional quality, low-volume air supply (for continuous finish nailing or occasional large gun use)
This would be the perfect tool for a handyman who needs occassional yet reliable air from house to house.

found in C3151's reviews: Used it today for the first time - I install windows as part of my job. I use an air hammer to break out the old windows and they require a lot of air. This compressor worked well with some catch up time but hey, it's only a 4 1/2 gallon tank. Cord wrap is fairly useless, handle makes it portable, regulator worked, switch and air release are protected. Dependable and... dependable - I've been using this compressor for about 3 months now. Nailing, stapling, and air cleaning. The pressure, for the most part, maintains its equillibrium. What I don't particularly care for about the unit is the airflow adjustment valve. and I don't trust it for the compressor's duraction.
05 update: I noticed one reviewer griped about this tank's compressor turning on frequently while using an air wratchet or something. that's an unfair assessment. Using such tools would cause the same reaction on any tank with the same air gallon capacity. Not Commercial Quality - I bought this unit so I would have an aircompressor that would keep up with common pneumatic tools. It's been in the shop (factory repair center) for a month now and have no idea when it will be fixed. From a homeowner - This is a great compressor. The manual says 15 Amps, but its more like a hair above that. The copper one that pumps the air into the reservoir. Perhaps a quality control issue. (I definitely wouldn't want to buy a second compressor for that either. Aside from those minor inconveniences (hence the 4-stars), this is a very plug-and-playable compressor for the DIY homeowner. I made the mistake of buying one of the pancake style compressors and found it a little weak for doing the basement framing.

Porter-Cable CFBN200A 2" 18 Gauge Brad Nailer/Compressor Combo Pack - Well satisfied with the quality. The compressor is loud but if you don't mind the noise it is not a factor. The brad nailer is high quality. The Perfect Trim Combo Pack - Not only did I receive my order for this combo pack 2 days earlier than expected, but I could not be more pleased with the quality and performance for the money. This is an older and proven compressor design that I was well familiar with.
