Porter-Cable is proud to introduce our first oil-lube compressor. When we first put our engineers on the task of designing an oil-lube compressor we gave them one priority; it could not have the same imported pump as all the other major brands have. So, in true Porter-Cable fashion the engineers came up with a completely different pump. Just as in a car, the lubrication system in the pump is the most vital part in a compressor. Now, take this revolutionary pump engineered to last over 3,000 hours of use and add in the "High Pressure Technology" and you have compressor that will run at 150 pounds per square inch (PSI). found in CPLDC2541S's reviews: Does it job w/ no problems - Unless I just happened to get a good one; I have had no problems w/ this compressor. It is the garage compressor and is exposed to humidity of 70% or more and temps from 33-90's. Pump shuts off at in around 150psi. I have use it to pump car tires, run air nailers,a small porter cable detail spray gun and even a ingersol rand 1/4" air rachtet. I have changed oil once and air filter once. Takes to much power and is too loud (also flimsy switch) - This compressor absolutely will NOT run on 15 amps. This makes this compressor almost usless for me because I can never find anywhere to plug it in. I was just working in a basement at the same time as a guy that had a Hitachi compressor and his was less than HALF as loud. The guy helping me tripped over the air hose and it caught on the little shutoff lever. Now my compressor won't even shut off. If you leave it run it will pump up to 175 psi and then blow the relief valve. I'm seriously thinking about just leaving this for the garbage man and buying the DeWalt Emglocompressor. I ended up buying a CastAiraircompressor. CastAir is not a commercial brand, but the factory where they are made is about 2 miles from my house in Chaska, MN. These compressors were only recently made available to non-commercial applications (previously they specialized in huge compressors used in body shops, etc. It's quiet, powerful, and SOLID as a ROCK!!! A REAL contractor grade compressor for the same amount as I paid for this PC. I have NO relationship or incentive to recommend CastAir other than I'm a very satisfied customer. Check them out if you want a REALLY great compressor.

Porter-Cables solved the compressor mobility problem on two levels with this tool. First, and most impressively, its got a two-port removable console for remote air regulation and higher air pressure right where youre working. And the compressor itself has wheels and an extension handle, making life easier on you.
Lets face it: This compressors big, heavy and loud, with a max psi of 150. You can run three or four guns at once off it with a splitter and have no air supply problems whatsoever. Its built tough for the job site (and the trips to and from), with a full roll cage to shield your pump and motor.5 gallon, oil-free contractor style compressor is packed with features. It starts with the oil-free pump which is designed for durability and long use. The high-flow air regulator and two-port removable console are winning combinations for contractors. Having the ability to remove the console gives the user the opportunity to remote air regulation and gain higher air pressure closer to the job site. The full roll cage frame adds protection for the pump and motor. Air delivery at 40 PSI: 7.

found in C3151's reviews: Used it today for the first time - I use an air hammer to break out the old windows and they require a lot of air. This compressor worked well with some catch up time but hey, it's only a 4 1/2 gallon tank. Cord wrap is fairly useless, handle makes it portable, regulator worked, switch and air release are protected. I can lift this into my truck a lot easier than my contractor wheel barrow type Emglo. From a homeowner - This is a great compressor. The manual says 15 Amps, but its more like a hair above that. It even tripped my 15 amp dedicated circuit for my sump pump. The copper one that pumps the air into the reservoir. (I definitely wouldn't want to buy a second compressor for that either. Aside from those minor inconveniences (hence the 4-stars), this is a very plug-and-playable compressor for the DIY homeowner. I made the mistake of buying one of the pancake style compressors and found it a little weak for doing the basement framing.

found in CPLDC2540S's reviews: A- compressor except for the regulator - I've been searching for a portable compressor for a couple of months now and near the end came up with three to chose from: the Emglo 55155, a Hitachi dual stack and this PC.
After looking at the reviews here, elsewhere and comments from a friend about his Emglo, I decided to go with the 2540S. Other compressors did meet these, but what draw me was the oil lube system that permits you to use it on uneven surfaces.5max) to not trip the circuit breakers, filtered intake (not output though) for longer motor life, shrouded motor for airflow from fan and good manual. The only thing I added at the universal coupler end is a water/air filter.

SINGLE STAGE AIRCOMPRESSOR. Single Stage Cast Iron Compressor5 HP Peak, 20 Gallon.
found in VT6290's reviews: VT6290 and FedEx - The box was busted on one side causing some of the content to spill outside (a tire and air filter). On top of that, FedEx delivered the box upside down, causing the discharge tube to bend, the air filter to separate from the pump, a busted pressure gauge and a bent handle bar.
So I filled the ugly duckling with oil, did the 30 minute pump break in, and it worked very well. The compressor DOES NOT include oil. The air filter supplied causes the compressor to be kind of noisy.
Except for the awful FedEx delivery, I am happy with the compressor. Free delivery, free air hose, no tax, and 10% off. Might work if received undamaged.......and with oil...and a few fixes - The shipping box is flimsy and cannot adequately support nor protect the compressor and parts. Mine arrived with a broken regulator, pressure gauge and air-filter assembly all of which apparently snapped off during shipment with no visible exterior box damage.
As the other reviewer also mentioned the compressor does NOT come with oil so be sure to have SAE30 air-compressor oil ready when it arrives. Also, you will need to provide your choice of air outlet connector.
If it wasn't for the bad shipment packaging I'd say initially that the compressor is a good buy but if Campbell Hausfeld has so little regard to protecting their product in shipment to you I question the integrity of the machine itself.
UPDATE 7/15: I am updating this review a full day after receiving and can add more to the trials and tribulations of purchasing a C-H compressor. The air filter assembly is currently taped but working until I can get a replacment. All in all if you include travel time to Home Depot nearly 2-1/2 hours were spent just getting the compressor to work only to discover that there is a leak at weld where the pump mount attaches to the tank.) if using an extension cable as this compressor does draw a load when starting.
IMHO I wouldn't order a product like this if you need it for an immediate job as it will take to either repair yourself or to return and await a replacement. I needed this compressor to replace my dead one and ordered it to coincide with my time at home as I could not expect my wife to unload it.

The HL5501 has plenty of power for a stapler or nailer; imagine how quickly a chair rail could go up. Because it's a smaller unit, its air delivery is lower, so make sure you check the air requirements of the tools you intend to use it with.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste

8 Gallon, 15A Cast Iron AirCompressor, Oil Lube Pump With 2.
found in HL5501's reviews: Sturdy, portable, cheap oil-lubricated compressor... But noisy! -
Let me start by saying that I can't live without an aircompressor. Those of you who don't have one have no idea how much you'll use it and what an integral part of any household project or repair it will become when you finally have one. That being said, let me explain why I bought this particular compressor and what I think about it thus far.
Until recently, I had an 8-gallon oil-free compressor that was handed down to me from my dad after I bought him a large stationary garage unit about 6 years ago. This thing lasted about 13 years with very regular use with a few repairs over the years. This is absolutely unheard of with an oil-free compressor. In order to replace the blue tarp roof provided by FEMA with some actual shingles, I will need a compressor to power my roofing and framing nailers. Portability and reliability are important factors in order to assist with the reconstruction efforts of the community once the repairs to my home are complete. This is why I decided on an oil-lubricated compressor. Although I had great success with the aforementioned oil-free compressor, I do understand that this was more the exception than the rule. It is hard to find an oil-lubed compressor that is both portable and affordable., making them very difficult to get in and out of your truck/car by yourself, let alone getting them up a flight of stairs. Also, the plastic shroud that covers the motor/pump is slightly cracked because it contacts a part underneath it. Finally, you have to add the oil to the pump. This compressor does not come with oil, even though the instruction manual says "only use the oil that was shipped with the compressor." The other thing that you will run into is that it does not come with a coupler to connect an air hose to. Although this is very common for air tools not to come with the required fittings to connect it to a hose, there is one difference here. I have never seen a quick-disconnect air hose connector (the hose end that has the sleeve to release the connection) with male threads on it. (a brass pipe nipple for you plumbers out there)
Use: The Campbell Hausfeld HL5501 overall seems to be a very good compressor. If you are looking into this compressor because of the reduced noise level that oil-lubed compressors are known for, then you will be disappointed. This compressor is every bit as loud as any comparable oil-free unit.
Conclusion: I would recommend this compressor to the handy home user that wants the reliability and longevity of an oil-lube compressor, but doesn't want to spend a lot of money. I would not recommend this compressor if the noise level is a big issue, but be prepared to spend a lot more money for a belt-driven unit.
