found in C3551's reviews: Get a clue Porter Cable! - First I will start by saying PC makes a good compressor and we have two at the company I work for. The first C3551 showed up with the roll cage dented in two places, the air filter post bent, scratched everywhere and the big problem something metal was loose in the engine and you could hear it banging around as you moved the compressor around. The second C3551 that showed had a dented roll cage also but the big problem was more metal clanging around in the motor. compressor was two flimsy pieces of cardboard on either side of the unit. I think all of my problems could have been solved with better packaging and Porter Cable would have kept the sale. Porter Cable lacks quality control - After following the breaking procedure, I noticed that the regulator wouldn't let out any air. (Also, the compressor being so quiet won me over and I was willing to overlook few minor problems in order to keep it.)
I contacted Porter Cable through email for suggestion, since nothing from the trouble-shooting section of the manual hinted on what might be the problem.
Porter Cable indicated the problem might be due to the regulator being blocked by a dope sealant, and suggested I remove it to check. I will receiving a replacement compressor tomorrow and I will post how that worked out, at that point I will be adjusting my rating for the product. way to go porter cable BEST MACHINE ON THE MARKET - this my 2nd aircompressor matter fact I was building a arbor for the back yard after pressure was reached for nailgun I work over 1 hour before the compressor recycled the only problem I have had is to set the pressure on the nail gun after about 2 tries it worked perfect. I really like the idea on the removeable gauge face the compressor stay in 1 spot and 50 to 100 feet you can attact the face to a fixed object so you can save on trips back to the compressor when you need another nailgun as in replaceing the framer to finishing gun . The Porter-Cable C3551 is a very nice compressor - I have a few compressors already - but they are too big and bulky to move around and my previous smaller 10 gallon compressor is getting a bit rough around the edges. 10 years old for a oil-less compressor is a pretty good.
With that said I wanted a new smaller compressor to aid in the remodel work I'm doing.
Upon receiving the compressor I gave it a quick once over. I don't think they will be giving me a problem anytime soon.
The performance of the compressor is very good. It fills quick, cycles infrequently, and is fairly quiet.
I think this is one of the best small compressors out there. If you need a nice portable compressor - look no further. For me it came down to the DEWALT D55155 or this compressor. The Wheels! - I have given this unit a 5 star rating and this is my third compressor that I've owned over past years. That is my only problem with what I think is a very nice tool. I'm going to modify my Job Boss with a Jet 3/8"x50' air hose reel bolted right on top of that cover plate and not only eleminate some of the mess with air lines snaking all over the floor but should also keep anyone from standing on that plate. You can find air hose reels in Amazon's Tool Crib listings.

The new MAC700KIT-Hotdog compressor (with AF503 2 Brad Nailer) by Makita is blowing away the competition with built-in features such as a super quiet motor that draws only 12.
found in MAC700KIT's reviews: High Quality Kit - Makita came through big time when they introduced this machine, I can have the thing running next to me and keep a conversation going on my cell phone with no problem. If you are looking for a small compact compressor that has the capacity of the medium sized units, this is the one. Recommended Unit - I'm pleased with the Makita MAC700KIT 2 HP AirCompressor Kit I purchased from Amazon. I did a fair amount of research and was tempted to purchase a Porter-Cable oil-free kit, but after borrowing a Craftsman (same as Porter-Cable)oil-free compressor from a friend, I decided to go with the oil lubricated Makita primarily because the unit is much quieter but also because I'm convinced the oil-based units have a longer life span. "Not to bad since it's outside", she said, the only problem was, it was inside house in the next room over.

The D55151 electric compressor is equipped with a 1. The compressor is designed with a durable cast iron cylinder, providing increased pump life. Designed to be sturdy yet lightweight, the compressor weighs only 53.
found in D55151BN's reviews: Slow starting motor - However I do have a problem with my machine as it's motor will not function on a cold morning outside. Bringing it inside or putting it into a heated car cures it's starting problem. Once running it a real jewel and fairly quiet. Problem with Amazon - I am writing not to rate the compressor but to tell everybody what happened to me. I placed an order for this compressor and an air house that was free. I found out that UPS returned the item back to the manufacturer (damaged item - reason given) they issued me an instant credit, and I am left with an air house and air chuck (part of the order that was delivered) and NO compressor. The air house was supposed to be free but it is not, I got charged 34$ because I did not buy any compressor.

SINGLE STAGE AIRCOMPRESSOR. Single Stage Cast Iron Compressor5 HP Peak, 20 Gallon.
found in VT6290's reviews: Might work if received undamaged.......and with oil...and a few fixes - I too had a shipping problem though with another carrier (ABF). The shipping box is flimsy and cannot adequately support nor protect the compressor and parts. Mine arrived with a broken regulator, pressure gauge and air-filter assembly all of which apparently snapped off during shipment with no visible exterior box damage.
As the other reviewer also mentioned the compressor does NOT come with oil so be sure to have SAE30 air-compressor oil ready when it arrives. Also, you will need to provide your choice of air outlet connector.
If it wasn't for the bad shipment packaging I'd say initially that the compressor is a good buy but if Campbell Hausfeld has so little regard to protecting their product in shipment to you I question the integrity of the machine itself.
UPDATE 7/15: I am updating this review a full day after receiving and can add more to the trials and tribulations of purchasing a C-H compressor. The air filter assembly is currently taped but working until I can get a replacment. All in all if you include travel time to Home Depot nearly 2-1/2 hours were spent just getting the compressor to work only to discover that there is a leak at weld where the pump mount attaches to the tank.) if using an extension cable as this compressor does draw a load when starting.
IMHO I wouldn't order a product like this if you need it for an immediate job as it will take to either repair yourself or to return and await a replacement. I needed this compressor to replace my dead one and ordered it to coincide with my time at home as I could not expect my wife to unload it.

Product Description
Portable, electric powered compressor with 3 HP, high output, heavy-duty induction motor.
found in CWC200ST's reviews: Poor Reliability - Had this unit 1 month and the motor locked up, took Bostitch repair center 3 weeks to fix, told me it was a common problem they were seeing with this unit. Compressor head is OK but the extra parts are of low quality - I bought one of these compressors a couple of months ago after doing carefull research and actually going to a repair facility here in AZ that handles warranty repairs for a variety of brands. I estimate that the compressor has about 15 (fifteen) hours of use by now. You will have to tilt the compressor down and rock it side to side to get the water out, furthermore when tilted the lower drain hits the floor impedig drainage so you actually have to lift this rather heavy machine and tilt it and rockit at the same time in order to drain. Shortly after purchasing the unit one of the Quick Disconnects on the compressor will not seal itself after the hose is taken off and will merily leak all the air out in about one minute, I had to replace that so I could use the machine. For about the last five hours of use I started to notice that if left pressurized overnight the air was gone in the morning upon closer inspection I could hear a faint hiss comming from somewhere behind the regulator It was not much just enough to leak and turn the machine on about every 15 minutes even if I did not use air. Yesterday the manual regulator prooved to be the culprit as when I started the compressor for the first time it would not hold air at all. I took the disconnects off and loked at the problem. I put my head next to it to listen for the noise of air escaping and sure enough there was a faint hisssss. While I was trying to figure out where the noise is caming from The back of the manual regulator popped loose again suddenly letting all the air escape in an instant startling me and prompting my wife to ask from the kitchen some ways away: "did you do that on purpose?" Well NO.They are too loose and thin hence the problem. Overall the tech was right the actuall compressor is well done I believe he said it was Italian made the rest is rather sloppy and not thought out well.

Product Description
8 Gallon, 15A Cast Iron AirCompressor, Oil Lube Pump With 2.
found in HL5501's reviews: Sturdy, portable, cheap oil-lubricated compressor... But noisy! - Cons: Noisy (for an oil-lube), poor quality wheel hardware (could've been an isolated problem on only my unit).
Let me start by saying that I can't live without an aircompressor. Those of you who don't have one have no idea how much you'll use it and what an integral part of any household project or repair it will become when you finally have one. That being said, let me explain why I bought this particular compressor and what I think about it thus far.
Until recently, I had an 8-gallon oil-free compressor that was handed down to me from my dad after I bought him a large stationary garage unit about 6 years ago. This thing lasted about 13 years with very regular use with a few repairs over the years. This is absolutely unheard of with an oil-free compressor. In order to replace the blue tarp roof provided by FEMA with some actual shingles, I will need a compressor to power my roofing and framing nailers. Portability and reliability are important factors in order to assist with the reconstruction efforts of the community once the repairs to my home are complete. This is why I decided on an oil-lubricated compressor. Although I had great success with the aforementioned oil-free compressor, I do understand that this was more the exception than the rule. It is hard to find an oil-lubed compressor that is both portable and affordable., making them very difficult to get in and out of your truck/car by yourself, let alone getting them up a flight of stairs. Here is where I had a problem. This compressor does not come with oil, even though the instruction manual says "only use the oil that was shipped with the compressor." The other thing that you will run into is that it does not come with a coupler to connect an air hose to. Although this is very common for air tools not to come with the required fittings to connect it to a hose, there is one difference here. I have never seen a quick-disconnect air hose connector (the hose end that has the sleeve to release the connection) with male threads on it. (a brass pipe nipple for you plumbers out there)
Use: The Campbell Hausfeld HL5501 overall seems to be a very good compressor. If you are looking into this compressor because of the reduced noise level that oil-lubed compressors are known for, then you will be disappointed. This compressor is every bit as loud as any comparable oil-free unit.
Conclusion: I would recommend this compressor to the handy home user that wants the reliability and longevity of an oil-lube compressor, but doesn't want to spend a lot of money. I would not recommend this compressor if the noise level is a big issue, but be prepared to spend a lot more money for a belt-driven unit. Good lightweight compressor - Twelve pairs of pintle hinges, each leg 2"x 3/16"x 20", took a long, long time.
Which brings me to my first complaint: during that job, a couple of the fittings under the protective plastic shield vibrated loose and leaked enough air that the compressor couldn't reach shut-off pressure. Using the nailer at 100psi, the compressor cycled fairly regularly, but could keep up with the nailer without any trouble.
Noisy? Yes, but so is every other aircompressor I've ever heard, and it cycles fast enough that for occasional use it's tolerable.
My only real problem with the HL5501, other than fittings that come loose, is that the air outlet comes off the side of the manifold in such a way that by the time you've attached a water filter and a female quick-disconnect fitting, there's quite a bit of potential leverage hanging out there unprotected. I'm always worried about hitting it, or pulling the air hose too hard, or doing some such thing that bends the manifold, or tweaks the regulator, or busts the water filter. Make sure to site it so that that air outlet is protected.

My compressor arrived in its thick cardboard box with two of the mounting tabs for the shroud broken off the cast metal main housing and the plastic fan broken in half.
