found in C3551's reviews: way to go portercable BEST MACHINE ON THE MARKET - this my 2nd aircompressor matter fact I was building a arbor for the back yard after pressure was reached for nailgun I work over 1 hour before the compressor recycled the only problem I have had is to set the pressure on the nail gun after about 2 tries it worked perfect. I really like the idea on the removeable gauge face the compressor stay in 1 spot and 50 to 100 feet you can attact the face to a fixed object so you can save on trips back to the compressor when you need another nailgun as in replaceing the framer to finishing gun .great idea portercable WAY TO GO PORTERCABLE. Get a clue PorterCable! - First I will start by saying PC makes a good compressor and we have two at the company I work for. The first C3551 showed up with the roll cage dented in two places, the air filter post bent, scratched everywhere and the big problem something metal was loose in the engine and you could hear it banging around as you moved the compressor around. I called PorterCable and they said it was probaly droped in shipping. Now for my real gripe, PorterCable you really need to start packing your product better. compressor was two flimsy pieces of cardboard on either side of the unit. I think all of my problems could have been solved with better packaging and PorterCable would have kept the sale. Performs to expectations - I purchased the portercable model C3551 after considering the Dewalt suitcase carry model. Although the Dewalt weighed 20 pounds less, I liked the PorterCable model that rolls. I called PorterCable, and they are sending me a replacement guage. I specifically wanted an oil lube compressor for durability, and this model fits that requirement.
The PorterCable logo was not put on with the greatest of care, but it hardly merits any bad criticism. For handyman work or specialty trim nailing, this compressor is ideal. PorterCable lacks quality control - After following the breaking procedure, I noticed that the regulator wouldn't let out any air. (Also, the compressor being so quiet won me over and I was willing to overlook few minor problems in order to keep it.)
I contacted PorterCable through email for suggestion, since nothing from the trouble-shooting section of the manual hinted on what might be the problem. PorterCable's response came too late (four days), by then I had returned it to Amazon for exchange.
PorterCable indicated the problem might be due to the regulator being blocked by a dope sealant, and suggested I remove it to check. I will receiving a replacement compressor tomorrow and I will post how that worked out, at that point I will be adjusting my rating for the product. I bought the Porter-Cable C3551 . . . AND I'M STILL GLAD!!! - I shopped long and hard for a well built portable compressor that was durable and just plain practical. I did hands-on shopping for several different brands and types, finally choosing the Porter-Cable C3551. This is a fantastic compressor. Good idea, but a bit more durabilty would be nice - I've been using this compressor for about 2 years of daily remodeling work in Colorado in all weather conditions. I bought it because I was tired of lugging around other compressors that didn't have wheels. The rolling design of this compressor is very good because it can easily go up and down stairs as well as over typical construction site obstacles.
After a few months of use the tank pressure gauge failed, and PorterCable sent me a replacement.
After a year of use the motor kept tripping breakers, so I took the compressor in for service and it received a new compressor and motor.
I work on job sites that have ancient compressors that continue to function flawlessly (but they're really heavy to move around), so I'm a bit worried by the problems I've noticed in only 2 years of use.
Because this compressor is oil lubricated, it does get sluggish in the winter. It also cannot supply as much air as the oil-free version. A trim subcontractor I know has the oil-free version and he has to rebuild his compressor annually with a $40 repair kit, so oil free isn't entirely without issues.
If you already have a compressor you like, I'd bolt some good wheels onto it and weld a nice handle onto the frame. That way you'd have all the advantages of the PorterCable Job Boss without the durability problems. The PorterCable now sits in my garage for home projects or small jobs that where portability is the most important factor. Rattler - As some previous comments, Porter-Cable needs to do a much better job of packaging this unit!
Luckily, there was no external damage to the unit, but there is quite a few things rattling around either in the motor or the tank (I can't tell which) so, I'm afraid to put oil in it and getting it started. Mine came damaged - It looks like I'm going to go with the Dewalt D55155 instead or the Makita Hotdog since I want an oil lube compressor. Assiming I get the Dewalt, Black and Decker still wins since they own PorterCable and Dewalt. The Porter-Cable C3551 is a very nice compressor - I have a few compressors already - but they are too big and bulky to move around and my previous smaller 10 gallon compressor is getting a bit rough around the edges. 10 years old for a oil-less compressor is a pretty good.
With that said I wanted a new smaller compressor to aid in the remodel work I'm doing.
Upon receiving the compressor I gave it a quick once over.
The performance of the compressor is very good. It fills quick, cycles infrequently, and is fairly quiet.
I think this is one of the best small compressors out there. If you need a nice portable compressor - look no further. For me it came down to the DEWALT D55155 or this compressor. The Wheels! - Like the other reviews about the C3551 Job Boss, I've used it on several locations that involved hauling it up to second and third levels. I have given this unit a 5 star rating and this is my third compressor that I've owned over past years. (The owner of MK Diamond which makes great tilesaws told me that recently Porter-Cable was sold to Black and Decker!) Anyway, this little unit is a step above it's competition and I'm impressed. In one of the earlier reviews a mention was made about the flat protective cover plate that caps out the top of the unit. I'm going to modify my Job Boss with a Jet 3/8"x50' air hose reel bolted right on top of that cover plate and not only eleminate some of the mess with air lines snaking all over the floor but should also keep anyone from standing on that plate. You can find air hose reels in Amazon's Tool Crib listings. Everything it promises and more.......... - All I can say is there are a LOT of portable aircompressors out there and a lot of them are junk. I did not use the oil that came with compressor though, I decided to run a fully synthetic oil (make sure it is a compressor oil) Ingersoll Rand makes a very high quailty oil for this compressor. Everything is where it should be on this compressor: knobs, gauges, ect. The only thing I would tell someone interested in this compressor is don't be fooled by PorterCables "oil-free" version of this compressor, I have done a lot of comparision shopping not only is the oil free version much noiser but you will be servicing it much more often than the oil-lube pump. Lowe's sells the "oil-free" version of this compressor for 299.00!!!!!!!! You can purchase this compressor, tax free and shipped free and it will be shipped right to your front door! What a deal! Good job Amazon!.

Whether you need a compressor for woodworking, painting, caulking or construction, this 5-gallon Makita is a great choice, primarily because of its impressive 6-1/2 cfm at 90 psi on a 13. Built-in Storage Compartment - Conveniently stores air fittings & accessories. Air Hose Wrap - Stores 50 of 3/8" Air Hose with handle folded or upright. Large automotive style industrial air filter for increased air intake and greater efficiency.
found in MAC5200's reviews: MAC5200 Arrived Damaged - Just got finished reading a review where someone else received one damaged. If I had to do it again it would not be my first choice. - If I had to do it all over again I would have gone with the PorterCable. This is a good machine - The compressor is awesome. I also used a cheapo cutting wheel with it, and it actually had enough capacity to do a larger cut, and kept going pretty well when the compressor kicked on.
I certainly didn't really need this much power, and probably could have made do with one of the PorterCable combo specials, but I don't like to bring a knife to a gunfight.

I love this work-horse of a compressor. It does what I need, and it is quieter than my last compressor from Sears. I am not easily impressed, but I am with Porter-Cable products. Please Package it! - PorterCable packaging is meant for shipping via pallet not dropping it into any parcel delivery service. This is a 1.5 HP compressor, NOT 4.5 - Porter-Cable makes fine products however this compressor is grossly under-powered and should really be sold as a 1.

found in CPFC2TV3525VP's reviews: Oops, where's that quality control? - I'd love to review this product but when it was assembled, they cross threaded the tube that connects the compressor unit with the storage tank. Maybe I can review that one. I can get it cheaper!! - This is a compressor made by Devilbis Air Products, a division of Pentair, who also owns Delta Woodworking and Porter-Cable.
I have done some research and a two-stage compressor like this one is quieter and has more capacity than an equivalent-sized single stage unit. Not too noisey, good deal - Mine came with two of the legs bent, I read another review and that guy had the same problem also. Not too big or too small - Looked at various oil-lubed products including the PorterCable 6025. Keep in mind this product is made by the parent company of PorterCable and sold through the other store with it's own name on it. Oddly the oil lubed PorterCable 6025 only carries a 3 year warranty, and chain store's version was way more expensive and had less warranty (1 year) vs. Can run my air ratchet or 1/2' impact quite a long time without turning on. A sander (especially a high-speed unit) uses an awful lot of air and under heavy sander use I think this unit would be "strained". Bottom line if you need a compressor but the smaller 15 to 20 gal types are not enough and a big 60 to 80 gal.

At just a foot high and less than two feet wide out of the carton, this compressor was quite a bit smaller than we expected, so to be fair, we quickly lowered our expectations. The joke was on us, though, because this little powerhouse just doesnt quit, and we learned that you cant judge a compressor by its size. Emglos half-century in the compressor business is evident in this model, and with a couple of small exceptions (well get into that in a minute), we dont think anyone could make a finer piece of air power. Now, this may be a plus or a minus in your book, but we liked the fact that the compressor is factory set to power on at 100 psi an+d shut off at 120 psi, and the cycle time was under 15 seconds.) It has air aplenty for two nailers at once, and with that fast recovery, the job will get done in no time.
In balance, this is one of the best compressors weve seen for the size, power, ruggedness and incredible portability it offers. Heres to a great pairing of two great toolmakers.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste

2 HP, 4 Gallon, Electric Single Tank Hand Carry Compressor, 4.
found in D55155's reviews: Very Nice Unit - I had a PorterCable pancake compressor and yes it did roll around in the back of my truck and had a real hard time maintaining pressure when under extreme load such as running my texture gun. I replaced the PorterCable with the Dewalt and what a difference. It is a fairly hefty unit but it does carry nice due to it's shape. A pleasure to use - After putting a Porter-Cable pancake unit through its paces for two years, the unit developed an annoying tendancy to run continuously until it was manually shut off. The Porter-Cable service center recommended I continue to use the machine until it completely failed, as servicing it could be cost-prohibitive. The only item I found could use more thought was the routing of the power cable from the switch box to the motor - somewhat vulnerable, yet still protected by the base of the unit. No bad feelings about P-C products, the pancake compressor just gave up the ghost early and had to be replaced with a more capable unit - so far the Dewalt seems like a super piece. Perfect compressor for small jobs - This compressor will fill all your needs for small jobs on the worksite. It is flawless for air tools that do not require a large continuous flow of high pressure air. I've used it with a dewalt finishing nailer, brad nailer, air blower, portercable gravity feed spray gun, and husky cut off wheel. Heavy use of my 4" grinder will cause the motor to be on constantly and air pressure will drop too low to power the grinder at usable rpms. dewalt has never let me down - most of my tools are dewalt including a assortment of nailers and this compressor.its great!!never short on air supply, even when framing.as for noise, aircompressors make noise but this unit is not bad,its a lot nicer on the ears then my 30 gallon unit. the only thing that would make this unit more attractive would be wheels and a self-storing handle like portercable offers on its single tank compressors, other then that i have no complants. Yes! - This is to second everything Curtis Cordwell says in his earlier review. Ideal compressor for one or two people on cabinet, finish and trim work, or for any work-alone carpenter from framing to finish. I work alone a lot, and I have found that this is all the compressor I need. On the other hand, if I had a crew, I would not worry about this compressor's standing up to their abuse.

The new MAC2400 - Twin Stack aircompressor by Makita is blowing away the competition.3 amps to operate, a lower 1720 RPM rating and a heavy duty Intake Air Filter system like no other, its easy to see how this unit will out last and outperform everyone else. Large automotive style industrial air filter for increased air intake and greater efficiency.
found in MAC2400's reviews: Makita MAC2400 - Its heavy but so are all the other compressors in its class. I first ordered a reconditioned porter-cable, sent it back and ordered the Makita. Minnesota Charlie - The compressor arrived in good condition, no damage during shipping. The unit is very quiet compared to my PorterCable pancake (and I think it is wearing out) and recharges much quicker than the P. I used it with several air tools like ratchet, impact wrench, stapler, finish nailer, and framing nailer. The air cleaner seems loose and doesn't fit as snugly as it should to the motor. The other Reviews are Correct, this is a great compressor - I do not want to repeat what all the other reviews have said. This is a quality compressor. In this day and age of plastic junk, I am surprised some of the reviews complained about wieght.
The compressor is just as quiet as others report.
Why did I get this compressor? In sum, (1) I wanted a GOOD quality tool that was not Chineese junk, (2) I wanted at least 4 cfm for tools and (2) I did not want to spend a fortune. There seems to be several classes or levels of compressor in the lower price range. Unless you are getting a specialized mini-compressor just for a small brad gun, the $125-175 compressors are mostly junk: loud and rough. This Makita is in the next step up, with compressors in the $225 to 325 range. Most of this second tier are either made for just for job sites or are just bigger cheaply made compressors. The Dewalt is an excellent compressor, but you cannot use it next to you in an exclosed shop -- its too loud. It is a very well made little compressor.
The compressor seems to live up to its specs. When I went to use a Snap-On 7200 3/8" air ratchet, the performance was just adequate.
I have not owned a compressor is many years. As an advanced and serious home workshop dude, this review is not written for the pros. But for a serious homeowner that appreciates quality tools and needs a general purpose compressor, I believe I found the perfect compressor. Decent compressor if you can get one without damage - I researched portable compressors for months before deciding on the MAC2400. Even with weight I was quite pleased with the compressor but my buying experience was much less. My first compressor from Amazon had a broken plastic motor cover which wasn't caused by shipping damage. I sent it back and Amazon had a replacement back to me in 3-4 days, Quick!, but that compressor also was damaged. The air cleaner housing was thrown on top of the compressor and beat up the control panel and one gauge from bouncing around. I was told to contact Amazon and after a week of waiting on Amazon, I was told that they could not send part (it would void warranty if replaced) and they were not going to send a replacement compressor. I packaged up the second compressor and sent back. I wasn't going to order another brand compressor from Amazon as I didn't want the hassle if damaged again. looking at Ridgid as I really didn't want a Dewalt or the PorterCable pancake compressor which they carried. I bought a Ridgid model with a higher cfm rating, larger air tanks, wheels, handle and it came out of box without a scratch. After moving it around the house and up the stairs, I don't know how long I would have enjoyed carrying the MAC2400 or any other brand compressor that weighs 70-80lbs.
Overall the MAC2400 looked and sounded like a good compressor for the short time I had it but makes me wonder how well they are built, with so many problems between packaging and broken parts inside cartons not caused by shipping damage on the Mac700's and a few of these. If you are not in a hurry for a compressor and/or don't care about cosmetic condtion out of the box (if damaged) then Amazon is the place to buy with their best price.
